Blackmore sitting in with Purple tonight.

What I didn't like about the Steve Morse era (I saw DP a few times with him in the lead guitar slot) is that Steve wouldn't play - of all things - the "Smoke on the Water" intro chords properly. I know he did that intentionally, but for some reason, I always felt that you'd want to nail a song that iconic the way it had been done originally. I am in no way implying that Steve couldn't play the part correctly, as he'd run circles around 99.9% of the guitarists out there, but his CHOOSING to play it his way to create distinction was maybe unnecessary? It was great to see those clips - thanks for posting! -
currypowder started following NGD: Provision OLP Double Cut
-
In my (seemingly) never ending quest to experience as many boutique level Japanese guitars as possible, I recently made a trade for this Provision double cut. With the headstock shape, I'm guessing it was somewhat based on a Les Paul DC, but I don't think there's a Gibby with similar specs. The body shape, IMO, is much more reminiscent of a 90s Hamer Special FM-LE, although with several differences; control layout, pickguard, crown inlays and a neck that feels like a fat '59 carve. All in all, a familiar looking guitar with some features that make it a little unique. I don't know much about Provision other than they are a very small shop (around 10 people) that focus on making custom ordered guitars by hand. And I don't know the history of this one at all. I doubt I would have bought it outright, but being able to trade into it, I'm glad I got it. It plays and sounds great with pickups that are wound into the shop to low output PAF specs that gives a great snappy tone. http://provisionguitar.com/ Anyway, given the Hamer-esque body shape, I thought I would share it here:

I know exactly what you're saying, but I didn't grow up as a redneck... oh also Molly Hatchet 💯% agree 👍 -

@lastchild is absolutely right: no disclosure of the checking whatsoever. Serious Glamor ShotsTM in the CME ad! It is not relisted on the CME site as of this morning. OTOH, it does have the case and the trussrod cover. -

Classic rock radio overplayed a lot of good music. Those songs can get... um, "tiresome" on the radio. In the context of an album they sound great. - Today

Growing up redneck, I am just now getting to where I don't turn the channel when Skynyrd comes on. It isn't because it isn't good, but they were among around three bands we listened to drinking beer in the potato fields in high school. Skynyrd, Bob Seger and maybe 38 Special. Love them but just can't give them any more time. -

I will admit, she's a case queen. I play my EBMM Steve Morse a lot more than the Axis or my Stingray RS guitar, though the Stingray does have a nice chunky neck. For me its always more the shape of the neck than the size. Like, I love the current Ibanez Wizard HP profile, even though it's kinda thin, because it has nice shoulders on the profile. -

In 2026, you are correct, sir! -
That thing is the bomb’s ass. That is a featherweight for a 1 piece Gibson hog body LPC. IMO there are not enough 50’s style 2 humbucker customs in the world. GLWTS.

Word. The early Muscle Shoals tracks (with Bob Burns/Rickey Medlocke drumming) have great guitar tones. I think they went back and redid/cleaned up some things for actual release, but the original recordings on, "First (and Last)", are prolly my faves. "...Bullets" and, "Street Survivors", are killer, too. I dig LS, but like a lot of classic rock, a little goes a long way these days: Dude: "Ay, man. Who DOESN'T love me some, 'Freebird?' Bro: "Ah, I reckon. Sounds great the first 50,000 times, at least." -

He cannot play his Smoke solo anymore….as a huge DP fan of the Ritchie era, this saddens me. Ian Gillian din’t sound good either and he got lost in the song at one point. Glad they buried the hatchet on a personal level, but the performance was hard to watch. I’ll listen to Made in Japan or Perfect Strangers tonight..,and all will be well. -

Yup early Skynyrd was plexis and Ed would use a Twin to carve out different sonic space from Allen & Gary with his Strat. Live they were hardcore Peavey guys. Gary honestly loved them. -
So, Warm Audio had a promotion where you pay a certain amount and they just ship you whatever they want from their current stock. A guy that's been involved with business consulting for decades, I decided to give it a go. The "carrot" was them sending you various "prizes" of various values including one winner that would get one of each pedal they make. No such luck. And I have an original Zen and another copy from Lovepedal. So, this one is for sale. These sell for more almost everywhere. "Open box" WarmDrives from Sweetwater are $122. I need $100 shipped to the lower 48. Never played. New in the box. Did I mention they are really good clones? Thanks.

Guitars don't get lonely, when they don't get played. Contrary to popular belief! 😇 -
W-effin'-OOF! I tried so hard to love my Axis. It was perfect in every way, but that small neck profile just wasn't happening. One of these days I would like to find a nice Albert Lee hardtail. There was a trem version at Real Guitars last year that checked all the boxes, except...

I had a choice of three, same model, same color, and I still think this is the best top ever made. I'm much more into "irregular" tops than the tight flamed ones. One of these days I need to get better pictures of the other figured top guitars I own, which really aren't many. - Yesterday
