What causes a note to choke out? Rubber fingers. Sorry, couldn't help myself.

I made popcorn. Got my big comfy leather chair. Going to sit back and enjoy the show from a comfortable distance.

The most important qualities to look for in a cable are: Low capacitance per foot (in Pico-farads) Ideal impedance of 110 ohms (look into digital audio cables). 90% shielding ot better. Durable construction. On lifetime cables: No cable will last a lifetime. Cable shielding breaks down from repeated use. Coiling, bending, being stepped on etc. All these will degrade the quality oof any cable.

Sonic: It's not the cable, it's the plugs. What kind are they? Can you unscrew the shell and take a look at the inside for a make? Correct Switchcraft part # is 280. If it says "made in china" it's off spec, and that's the problem.

If the cable works with everything else, it sounds like the cables' plugs are a hair under 0.250" in diameter. The G&L should have a standard American made switchcraft a 1/4" jack. The sleeve on the Spectraflex plug is probably making intermittent contact. Also, if it's making poor contact on the ground, that would degrade the sound quality.

I'm happy with Standards. It's what I used in my 80's HM days.

I think the whole relic thing is literally insane. If I spend (and I have) big $$ on a bass, I expect it to LOOK flawless as well as play & sound exactly to my liking. I'm the one who gets to nick, dent, & scratch the thing...if I choose.
