Tone Zone is a NO go. Am having the Tone Zone in my mahogany Cali LE pulled out because it was too shrill & thin. Nice highs but shite for lows/mids. In a solid maple body w/ ebony board, that'd be unbearable. The Cali is, as stated, solid maple so, the BBQ might stand a chance of having nice mid/highs if it brings some fat warmth and beefy lows to the game. Would LOVE to get an EVH Frankenpup sound outta that Cali but again, I'm concerned about the brightness of the maple/ebony. My own experience with the EVH is that it has VERY nice definition for Floyded solos as well as sounds nice and chewy for rhythms. Kinda lacks any noteworthy low beef as is characteristic of 80's shred tones. Note: that is in an alder body w/ neck thru maple & ebony.

No. stacked= less appealing. All kidding aside, I found the stacked knob set up cumbersome and irritating and provided little if any benefit as I don't use THAT many tonal variations. It's pretty much full on bridge pup, phased or rhythm. If I can't get it thru those settings with volume adjustments, I don't do them.

I'm sure this issue has been beaten to death over the years but I have a solid maple Cali w/ the ebony board that is just too bright. Currently have some active SD Blackouts in it and am thinking of moving back to passives. I was never sold on the PATB's nor the OBL's but would like to get a fuller sounding EVH sound out of it. I do a lot of 80's era crapola in my playing, lots of whammy-ing, pinch/open harmonics, taps, legato, sweeps, skipping, blah blah blah. Need a p'up that has the definition for emphasizing but is warmer and thicker to offset the brightness of the maple and ebony. Suggestions? Also, any thoughts on a single coil that has the fatness of an hb p'up? Love to throw the selector to rhythm or phased between for sweeps and fast alternate picked runs (okay, my runs are slower and sloppy as hell but you get the idea)

Hey Gene, I'm reasonably certain I can make again this year, along with a trusty Cali. Put me down for Symphony and Rock N Roll Hoochie Coo. I'm game to offer up some EASY additional song ideas: Can do AC/DC's Whole Lotta Rosie which is fun but not in EVERYONE's vocal range Summertime Blues ala the Who The Sweet's Action Judas Priest's Another Thing Comin' & finally Quiet Riot's Come on Feel the Noize.

Our band does AIC's MITB, although sans talk box. Instead we use the wahs and it comes out fairly okay. -

Very unique finish 1988. What you guys think?

To each, their own. And I wouldn't own that if you paid me to. Looks like a good refin project -

Probably not quite cork sniffing, more like quirky & ill-conceived: 1) won't gig anything that's not USA production, custom shop or heavily modded w/ USA components. 2) nothing but OFR or Schaller lic'd version locking trems. 3) Nato & basswood are for beginners and tone deaf hacks 4) Truly "stock" guitars are only valuable as collector's items. -

Rodan, what pup's are in the red Diablo? I put an Air Zone in the bridge and an Air Norton in the neck. Sound pretty good, but I've kept the JB & 59 that were in there. LOOKS sharp, dunnit? Very. -

The wife typically predicates her likes/dislikes on visual appeal of an ax. In stark contrast to her otherwise tasteful preferences, she has latched onto my project JEM as her fave. She gladly contributed monies to help bring it back from the brink of being sold off a year back. I had been tinkering and modifying it for 3 years and it just wasn't coming together as planned so, it was slated for the auction block. She protested and offered to bankroll whatever costs were incurred to make it playable and thus, keep-able. Sadly, I still haven't been able to make it truly stable-worthy (as per my exacting expectations of trem and tone). Outside of that, it plays & looks great but I'm scheming to find a way to unload it to amass funds to pay for the custom order Cali. -

HFC Trade Gone Bad

yet it's kewl for everyone who has no business in this matter to stick their 2 cents in, make ignorant comments that are not wanted, warranted and not neded grow up and learn to look in your own backyard before condemning others, when you can walk on water, give me a call, until then, stay the hell out of my business.. IndianScout- While I seriously doubt you can grasp the concept, consider this: this is a public forum, in which we also buy, sell & trade stuff. Your actions on here effect all of us directly or indirectly. It most definitely IS our business. You've made it that way. If this situation is invasive or intrusive, I suggest you get the fuck out. -

Bravo! Just so long as it doesn't prevent that dude from getting his fucking lungs stomped on. Kiz, Please be careful, bro. I'm all for breaking heads & stomping guts when & where warranted but I'd hate to see any HFC-er doing time and developing a police record over the person, who, IMO, ain't worth it. If a beat down happens, it shouldn't be because it was OPENLY discussed on here. We're better than that. That fucker will get what's coming to him. Don't let it be at (y)our expense. -

Simply one of the best threads ever: http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/19391-grade-this-for-me-please/ Missed this the first time thru. I was riveted. Truly Pulitzer- grade material in that thread, MCChris. -
Interesting quandary here: do we act our age and eschew the trappings of our younger days or do we say, "damn the torpedoes, I'll play what I like?" I'm with BlueRedWhite and also say, " f*ck it. I'm almost 47 and I enjoy playing pointy-shaped shredder axes. Deal with it."
-
It was for guitar strings, actually- the by-line was, "they keep on rocking as long as you do" or something like that...I have a copious stash of old guitar for the practicing musicians in otherwise excellent condition.
-
Good point and one I considered as well. However, it is a valid comparison of two stock guitars. Fact is, Ibby p'ups have never been widely renown for their superior sound qualities. No doubt some out there like 'em. But a guitar is the sum of it's parts and frankly, the JEM is left wanting imo. That being said, I have a project JEM 555 I upgraded w/ a custom made neck, the Edge Pro and Dimazio Evo2 and Breed. The body is made of basswood and is the weak link imo. Tonally, it sounds thinner than my Hamers and am seriously considering getting a an alder or mahogany replacement body and custom painting it. Sadly, there would be NOTHING left of the original JEM at that point.

Wasn't it Tim "Ripper" Owens? That particular phase of JP's history was fodder for a lame movie with Mark Wahlberg & Jennifer Aniston called Rock Star. Pee-U!

+1 Rhythm guitars are nice and chunky, too. Sweet leads, nice harmonizing. Goddam, I love a good metal tune!
