I got the '89 Jem back from the 'shop' yesterday, took the neck off to see the ink stamps, took the pickguard off to clean around under the edges and see the wiring, and de-oxit the pots. After stringing it up and after initial setup, while re-aligning the trem bar retainer spring: this little brass plate fell out from somewhere, the guitar setup just fine, but there's this mystery, what is this from/for?

Gary Hoey and some Hamer content.
Jimbilly replied to Saul Goodman's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
among all the people he mentioned meeting, I can't believe he left out meeting me in the early 2000's!! I had brought a stack of his cd's for him to sign, probably 4 or 5, he was : "oh wow, thanks!, oh wow! thanks!!..." etc -seemed super cool- 1 reply

this is on layaway, I can pick it up next time I'm up that way. They sweetened the deal enough to make me wait (the store employees get some sort of bonus if they get enough layaways at the end of each month, so it's common to get a better discount if bought on layaway). '89, mostly just dirty and neglected, the funny thing is that it's much easier to assume it's a real one if it's dirty enough, and I think all the fakes have the serial on the back of the headstock instead of the neck plate like the earlier ones. I had a desert yellow one a while back, and or course I should have kept it, this eases my pain quite a bit

that would be worth a try imo

hilarious! because RE appraisal is my 'day job' too. yes, if your dealer can get a premium price and help with the difficult elements, that might be worth it, probably worth a try and see how it goes.

I only sell locally, the oddball stuff is hard to sell, even in a pretty well populated area, some stuff I think you have to be willing to ship. A Strat or Tele in the under $1k price range should sell locally in any sort of populated area if priced competitively, the 'mexi strat' or tele would be probably the most marketable guitars in existence. I chat with a friend regularly who sells a TON of gear online about pricing, we have kind of agreed on the simple principle that if yours is the cheapest one available based on what you're seeing listed online, even by just a little bit, eventually it will sell. I've got a couple I'm probably going to have to sell online, they are too 'nichey' to sell locally. I wonder what percentage your local dealer would take? I have considered similar, and always concluded that it would be less legwork to discount 'that much' and sell it myself locally on FB marketplace. I'm told that if you get practiced at it, packing/shipping is not that bad, make up a cool seller name ("MrJam guitars"?) on Reverb and jump in? You can get boxes etc delivered to you from Amazon, no more GC dumpster diving.

I've got a Kramer Pacer too, apparently SS played one of those quite a bit early on. - I have a regular Centaura (part of the SS evolution I understand), I just need a dual hum Centaura to complete the collection and timeline! I brought the SS2 to play at a memorial the other day (I played it quite a bit in the band with the person who was being memorialized), two of the guys wanted to buy it from me. Even though it is a bit relic'd, it is finally getting some of the love it deserves. I'm really not a SS 'superfan' (although I can listen to Rebel Yell endlessly), these just kind of found their way to me.

those are decent, but very plain, I've flipped a couple of those, they seem to go for about that. I always look at the Peaveys when pawn shopping, they can be a bargain, the shops can have trouble pricing those. I've still never seen one of those nice Cirrus basses at a pawn shop, those must be a bit rare. My Ltd St is my only 'keeper' Peavey so far. I see quite a few of the Wolfgang imports around, just yesterday I saw a really pretty import Wolfgang standard priced as a usa, - I'm searching for the usa priced as an import.

just to be overly clear to avoid any confusion: the one in the middle fits in the Les Paul or studio or special cases

T-51 Tele $4.5K - why?
Jimbilly replied to DarkHammer's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
wishful thinking would be my guess, priced like the other boo teek brands -
I just checked: my 87 SS1 custom fits perfectly in: early 80s Special case, late 2000s Studio custom case, and regular Gibson Les Paul case. The SS2 and SS0 (proto) do not fit in these cases, which is why mine are forced to live in soft cases.

-edited 4/19: now $1199! not such a good deal anymore no affiliation, these are #1 on my list of under valued guitars this one is supposed to have 'minimal wear', but just comes with a gig bag https://reverb.com/item/92939952-peavey-limited-ltd-st-2000-s-amber-flametop?utm_campaign=US-Shop_unpaid&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google

Greg Koch plays loud unapologetically
Jimbilly replied to Saul Goodman's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
he didn't say "gristle"!, - but always quotable such as in this video: "musicians are basically witch doctors" Greg is awesome, I got to see/meet him quite a few years ago when smallish music stores used to bring artists around for 'clinics', he seems like a genuinely good and fun guy. -

I'm guessing if so, they couldn't agree on a band name -

I wonder if Uli Jon and David Lee have ever considered forming a band? -
weird reflected lines in the previous photo, photos too big to attach both in the above, here's a better pic. Awesome guitar playing/sounding guitar, built around '03 for Namm

I'll break the 'Hamer' rule: custom shop John Douglas Peavey, I felt it was the appropriate guitar for the occasion

those would be tough to replace!, I'd keep them given the difficulty/cost of replacement, and the likelyhood of someday wishing you hadn't sold. Do you need the cash? - don't sell and then buy something that depreciates rapidly: always use different funding for a new purchase if it's for something that will depreciate, I know a guy who sold his real Bassman to buy a hot tub, the hot tub is worth zero now, and I'm sure he sometimes thinks of the Bassman he could have kept. 8-9 years ago I sold some gear to finance a mtn bike for racing, -terrible investment!, it was mostly not very special gear, but I think the '89 Jem $$ may have gone into that fund.

Wtb replacement tuner
Jimbilly replied to ArsPo's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
I did that on an Ibanez bass tuner (the only crappy tuner Gotoh made), it was almost magical: I heated it with a cigarette lighter iirc, placed my biggest magnet on it and the cap popped right out to the magnet, I think I just used a guitar amp speaker for the magnet -
Wtb replacement tuner
Jimbilly replied to ArsPo's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Ooh! yes! the button with the Hamer logo should pop right into the Schaller. Have you watched any of the youtube vids about removing that button using a bit of heat and a magnet? -
not 2-3x what it could be resold for, - that Diablo would be really hard to resell. There's a lot of good deals from private sellers mixed in with what's overpriced on Craigslist or FB marketplace. Do the legwork at pawn shops and great deals come up regularly (ask me how I know...). Cheap/ low cost import stuff can be quite playable (Harley Benton, Eart, Firefly, I'm sure there are other brands), and having a low value guitar to haul around has some benefits. My two picks for best value right now are: Peavey usa LTD ST, you can still get those for $1k or less in great condition and all original, beautiful and fantastic guitars. Ibanez Premium (AZ series and a signature model are what I have), very well spec'd with DiMarzios and Gotoh hardware, those won't hold their value like the Peavey mentioned above, but really really nice guitars. Honorable mentions include: upper end LTD and Schecter, Edwards, very recent Epi LPs. I've had/have examples of each of those, they can be low cost to purchase, and often have real DiMarzio, Duncan or Fishman pickups, and good hardware.
