I think the problem that a lot of people had with the Pacer was not the "fishbowl" look that it conjured up in one's mind, but the tendency that they had to explode when tapped on the back bumper.They fell out of favor after that realization. Clockwise (tightening) straightens and then back bows the neck. Counter clock-wise (loosening) relieves the neck. I don't know what you have going on there, but that's the way every standard truss rod that I have ever seen works.

No, they all work the same way in the same direction. Counter clock-wise (loosening) will add relief. Maybe you're remembering it backwards?
