Great pics Bubs! Do all Sunbursts have one-piece tops? Have I just been unobservant for years? -Austin -
I'll have to take your word on how it sounds. It certainly looks kick-ass! -Austin

Guitar "Closet" picture
atquinn replied to Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Awesome! How difficult would it be for a talentless hack like myself to do something similar? Our study is being converted into a kid's bedroom, so I'm going to need someplace to store by guitars. I've been looking for something like that that I could throw into the corner of our dining room. That way, I won't be leaving my guitars exposed and I also won't be pissing my wife off -Austin -

Nope, that's been gone for a little while, now. And why hasn't anyone bought this Diablo yet? -Austin -
That Artist looks like a toy on you! I believe Willcutts has an Arists with a Bigsby in stock, but the toggle switch position on yours makes it mo' betta! And is that a Vinetto I see? -Austin

HAMER SUNBURST - more SG than ... Les Paul ?
atquinn replied to a topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
This should be an interesting one! Given the construction, I don't see how it could sound closer to an LP, but I've never played an SG, LP or Sunburst, so what the hell do I know -Austin -
Put the Custom's in tonight. Haven't fully tweaked them yet, but so far...holy shit! They sound great with all levels of dirt and not bad clean (given the resistance readings, they'd probably sound great split, but my pickups are single conductors, so that's a project for another day) . I'm especially amazed at how good the Custom sounds in the neck. Somewhat dark, but not muddy at all. Great for distorted soloing. As an aside, I compared the 59's to the Fillmores in my chambered Studio and decided not to try swapping them; the 59's sounded better(!) -Austin

I thought the same about the Duncan Custom .... until I heard it in the neck of my SuperPro. Like buttah! How does it sound clean. I have a Custom/Custom Custom set (from a Monaco) on the way to try out in my Studio I'm sure I'll like the bridge pickup since I can change it to a Custom 5 (which I had and liked in a former Studio) or a Custom 8 (which is all the rage on the Duncan forum right now), but I'm wondering if the Custom in the neck will sound like poop clean. -Austin

That's the WTF bit right there. Hey I didn't say they sounded perfect, just that they were good. They sound a little less nice than the Seth Lovers I had in a previous Studio. Could I live with them? Probably. But upgrading will cost me maybe 10 bucks or so (assuming I swap in some different Duncan pickup), so why not? -Austin
-
What's going on? The '59 set in my "new" Studio Custom sounds surprisingly good, almost as good as the Seth Lovers in my (former) black chambered Studio Custom. Maybe it's the Korina? The only other guitar I've ever liked a 59 in also had Korina (although it was a bolt-on Korina Ibanez 7-string, so not really comparable?). Maybe I'm just getting old? Anyway, I'm going to still swap them out (), but I'm pleasantly surprised! -Austin

Weren't the Ultimates around before the 25th's? Those all have the 1st-fret inlay. Also, Thorn has done at least 1 guitar with silver purfling (too lazy to find it on his site right now, but it's a stunner). -Austin
-
Hot damn! That's awesome! Did they make any other 25th LTD's in green? -Austin
-
Those are the classiest guitars Hamer's ever made IMO. Love the silver purfling! -Austin

Before I forget, Radiohead (2 of 'em + marching band) where awsome too. Pervis Jackson RIP! Actually, yes, Radiohead was awesome (although, its seemed to just be Thom and Johnny). My problem is, I didn't watch the whole thing and when I first turned to it, they were doing a "tribute" to Dean Martin that appeared to featured Kanye West, Jay Z, Lil Wayne, some pregnant lady, and another rapper whose name escapes me That kind of negatively biased me to everything else I saw (which was admittedly, not much). -Austin

Where's the serious metal with decent vocals?
atquinn replied to Jack C's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Yeah, power metal (which is what I consider Vanden Plas) seems to be where the good vocals are nowadays. Pagan's Mind, Symphony X, etc... (whoever, I wouldn't call any of these groups serious ) -Austin -
The description reminds me of Suhr's SSV/SSV+ set. My guess is there are all sorts of pickups out there that pretty much do the same thing, but most people just stop at the first one that does it for them. -Austin

Correct. Now I need to get some pickups (those '59's aren't long for this world )! -Austin Do you need Nickel Covers? I have a Black CC and a Zebra PG. I think I'm going to try to go for the classic zebra neck/double cream bridge combo, maybe Suhrs. I'm not going to think about it too much until I sell off some stuff though -Austin -
