  1. Holy Sh!t! Dimebag was definitely a monster. Also, the squealy pointer was pretty cool. -Austin
  2. I totally agree with RJoseph133's take on George Lynch. It reminded me of myself when I put my PC mp3 player on random and just start mindlessly shredding over whatever gets played; Perfect Circle, Indigo Girls, Thomas Dolby, etc... Now I have about 1/5 of the technical ability that Lynch does, but still I wouldn't expect that anybody would be interested in hearing me doing that (of course, if anyone did, I would be right up there like Lynch wanking away ). -Austin
  3. Yup, you should definitely look at getting a Centaura in my opinion. One sold in our sale area for $450 and you should be able to find one on eBay for around that. You might also consider a Diablo II if you'd be willing to accept an HSH pickup configuration. They are rarer than Centaura's but are still in your price range. Getting low action should be no problem, but you would be buying a used guitar, so depending on how it had been treated, it might require a professional setup to get it playing how you want it to. -Austin
  4. Where's the Floyd?
  5. I need to throw a couple of those into my Mirage auction . -Austin
  6. O.k., that was one of the coolest things I've ever heard (that atonal sweep stuff, I mean). Seriously. -Austin
  7. For those that have the bandwith, there's a higher-quality video on the Dean site (click the picture on the right to download it). I think he's technically impressive, but I could list some Vai or Yngwie songs that are just as impressive, but that also resonate with me emotionally (but then again, lots of people think those guys are soulless hacks so what do I know? ). -Austin
  8. My condolences. Take care of yourself and your family. -Austin
  9. Wrong. I'm a very liberal guy, but I'm completely puritanical when it comes to drugs. No alcohol, tobacco, weed, coffee, etc... Also, Charlie Parker might have been a great saxophonist (I'm far to uneducated when it comes to jazz to say), but I don't think Clapton, Page, Richards, or Johnny Thunders are great guitarists (flame suite on ). I guess I'm too much of a child of the 80's? -Austin
  10. I find the meg-flame threads interesting in a car-wreck sort of way, but I think it would be better if threads like that were moved somewhere, so that casual passers-by wouldn't get a bad impression of Hamer from them. However, I'm pretty sure you're not making any money off of this so how much time are you willing to spend baby-sitting the board? Maybe it's time to deputize some members? Or would that just make the problem worse? -Austin
  11. That Standard looks sweet! However, I suggest going with chrome skull knobs instead of gold ones (can't have clashing hardware ). -Austin
  12. Why play a regular chord when a "weird" one will do? One of the chords that finds it's way into many of my songs is: e-0 b-3 g-2 d-0 a-0 e-3 In fact, the e-0 b-3 g-2 d-0 (Dsus2?) sounds great with all sorts of root notes on the fifth and sixth strings. -Austin
  13. Vanguard HB: An absolutely sweet guitar, but my Special sounded "better" in a close enough way to make it redundant. So, away it went. Still, Mahogany Artist HB's are inexpensive enough that I won't be surprised if I end up with another one someday. -Austin
  14. Damn! Talk about buying low and selling high! Didn't Joe get the celestial finish one from Japan a couple months ago for $1800 or something like that? -Austin
  15. I like GHS Boomers on my Hamers. I tried out Snake Oil strings (classic and rock formula), but they were just, eh. -Austin
  16. Your setup sounds fairly unusual to me. If you're not regularly gigging and you just want to get a good sound without pissing off the people you live with and around, you would probably be better off, getting a Pod XT or Pod XT Live. I live in an apartment and I use a Boss GT-8 for my playing. It gives me plenty of great sounds and doesn't annoy anyone. (I recommended a Pod XT/Live because they seem to be a bit more user-friendly for most people). -Austin
  17. That Korina Monaco III with no f-holes looks SHWEET!!!! -Austin
  18. If what you're vibing on is simply the humbucker tones of the LP (vs P90 tones you're currently getting), an HB Special, Studio, and Monaco Elite will all get you there. Demented is selling a sweet Special FM for $650 that you might want to check out: http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3852 -Austin
  19. Some thoughts: 1) Is what most bands have to say about politics any stupider than what they have to say about anything else? Personally, I find nu-metaller whining far more offensive than just about any political song I've ever heard . 2) Rock is supposed to be about rebellion. I think that can encompass the political realm as well. 3) Is political hypocrisy from "rich" musicians worse than hypocrisy from rich politicians, businesses, or individuals (like, say Oprah)? Are we holding them to a higher standard? 4) Breaking the Law, Killing in the Name Of, Biko; all of 'em are political songs that I like -Austin
  20. If you haven't tried out an Artist Mahogany, you might want to give one a try. They usually go for a bit less and they're great guitars, at least based on the silver sparkle one I had. (not as great as my special however, and you can't keep everything...) -Austin
  21. Beautiful guitar! I don't like Hamer's single cuts, but for some reason, the Monaco III appeals to me. They seem to be pretty rare though so I haven't gotten the chance to try one out yet. -Austin
  22. I'm in, but I'm a local so I don't know if that counts. -Austin
  23. Instrumental: Steve Morse - High Tension Wires Power Pop: The Grays - Roshambo, Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend Alternative: Radiohead - OK Computer -Austin
