This particular guitar had a buy it now of $325. It had a maple fretboard, which is rare, so I'm guessing it would have gone higher than that if it had been listed as an auction. However, the fact that people like myself passed on it when we could have bought it (I saw the auction before a post was made about it here, but decided to exercise some self-restraint (for once )) suggests that it wouldn't necessarily sell for all that much more. Say you ended up auctioning it off for $500 + $25 shipping. You'd only clear $525 -$15.75 (paypal fees) -$5 (listing fees) -$25 (shipping) -~$25 (final auction value fees, a guesstimate) =454.25 So, you'd make $110. A nice profit, but hardly enough to make me contemplate doing it as a side source of income. -Austin

Nothing's to stop you really. But remember, in order to make money selling stuff on eBay, you have to sell it for more than you bought it for just to break even (due to eBay and PayPal fees). So, you have to sell the Diablo for maybe $405 shipped just to break even. Also, if you buy stuff and then flip it on eBay (or here), the market is such that most potential bidders will know what you're doing (it's easy to see what you bought it for) and they might not be willing to play that. So unless, you get the deal of a century buying, your probably not going to be able to make a killing. And if you do get the deal of a century, it would probably make more sense to just keep the guitar. -Austin

Don't get me wrong; I like Vai more than I like Petrucci, but I've never heard him play anything I don't think Petrucci could play, whereas I don't this the opposite is true.

Surely you are only saying that because you haven't had the opportunity to hear his solo CD "Suspended Animation". I would be real surprised if you didn't like at least some of it, a great deal. Oh yeah, cool pics BTW. I haven't heard his solo CD yet (just some clips from his website; although now that you mentioned it; I think I'll download it tonight and give it a spin), but I do have the 2nd Liquid Tension Experiment album and I think it's pretty sweet. It's just that whenever I hear him he reminds me of Steve Morse (chromatic stuff), Joe Satriani (wah wah lead melodies), or Steve Vai (legato stuff, harmonized speed picking), all of whom I was fanatical about when I was starting out on electric guitar. Still, seeing as how he's technically better than all those folks, I would have loved to see him. -Austin

It's too bad it was in the middle of the day (if it's the clinic I think it was). I'm not a big Petrucci fan, but I'll never pass up a chance to see a great guitarist live for free (unless I'm at work, that is).

Any finishes that just irritate you?

Take out "comfortable" and just leave "non-phased" and I might agree with you. Otherwise -Austin -
Any finishes that just irritate you?

Agreed. However, I think that might be because the 59 burst just doesn't photograph all that well (I've never seen one in person, but I know red-edged bursts can tend to look more obnoxious and less subtle in photographs than they do in person). -Austin -
That's possibly the strangest Standard I've heard of specs-wise. It sure as hell looks nice though. Let us know how it sounds when it gets there. -Austin
-
Sounds like an Artist Custom would be a good fit for you. I'm not sure what pickups you would want to put in it though; The 59 might be o.k. in the neck for jazz, but the JB in the bridge...not so much. Maybe a 59'-59' combo?

Songs that "stopped you dead in your tracks"
atquinn replied to Willie G. Moseley's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
A handful that come to mind are... Joe Satriani - Not of This Earth Steve Vai - Bad Horsie Living Color - Cult of Personality (specifically the solo) XTC - Mayor of Simpleton Alan Holldsworth - Joshua Sugar - Tilted Polytown (David Torn Mick Karn Terry Bozzio) - This is the Abduction Scene -
Cool! If it's the guitar I think it is, it looked lighter in AdmiralB's pictures, like more of a denim burst.

I think that would look pretty sweet if it were an Artist Custom, but without the binding and crowns, it just looks a bit cheesy (like how they put on the chrome dome knobs though).

Your personal guitar inspiration?

Insert your own mother joke here, LOL I was wondering when a comment Like that would show up; I'm dissapointed that it took so long -Austin -
Your personal guitar inspiration?
atquinn replied to MrGuitarguy's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Joe Satriani - Not of This Earth was probably my biggest inspiration. I'm still amazed today when I listen to it. Most impressive was the fact that "regular" people (such as my mom) could actually stand to listen to his songs (my mom was a particular fan of "The Snake"). -Austin -
I don't see why NAMM just doesn't have a public day. Let the business people do their thing and then let the public in. But hey, I think the same thing about the E3 convention and it's not happening there either. -Austin

The single coil? I took mine out of my Cali when I put in the Cool Rails (the PASTK was too bright an low output for me) and it's in minty fresh condition. Make me an offer and it could be yours (I have no idea what these go for on the used market because I don't believe I ever seen on available used. I also might be interested in a pickup swap if you've got stuff laying around). -Austin
-
I love my Cali's, but for bang-for-the-buck; I'd probably choose a Diablo. As far as a getting one of the import Cali's; I'd say you'd be much better off getting a used Diablo for $350-$400. And Lockbody, I have a Cool Rails and a Parallel Axis Trembucker (original model) in one of my Cali's and it's an awesome pickup combination. The PATB1 is my favorite bridge pickup so far (I have one in my Diablo too), so I'd definitely recommend picking one up if you see one used. -Austin

The Pawnshop is gone. At least that's what they told me when I checked on it last week. -Austin

I'm definitely going to get one of the those GMP LP's with the blended neck heel as soon as one turns up. I think the Fender scale would make them pretty sweet for down-tuning. -Austin

FS/FT Dimebucker

Where is this thing on the bright-dark scale (for example, is is brighter or darker than a JB)? -Austin -
Does my wife hate my guitar playing?
atquinn replied to MTM105's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I've written my wife a couple songs. She doesn't like most of the stuff I play (too heavy/wanky for her), but she never fails to describe me as a good guitarist if the opportunity presents itself . -Austin -
Happy new year to everyone! I did quite a bit of Hamer buying and selling this year: Moved in: Diablo I Flamed Maple Cali Elite Black Cherry Sparkle Cali Elite (not in my possesion yet, but I bought it yesterday, so it still counts) Moved out: Mirage I AK 3P90 It looks like this was the year my hidden (and mostly incompetent ) shredder came out. On the Hamer Buy List for 2006: SET-NECK CALI!!! (a boy can dream, can't he?) T62 -Austin

[uneccessary info]I went to the Guitar Summer Workshop in CT when I was a wee lad and I took classes from Lou and Mark Dziuba (I still have his stand alone fusion tape around here somewhere ). [/uneccessary info]. Anyway, from what I can see, the site is extremely well-designed and conceived. -Austin
