I believe what Jol said was something like "When the used (name your model) start selling for around what the price of building a new one would be, then I'd consider building them." We can still easily find Diablos well under $1K and even a prisitine Cali is not going to draw anywhere near a street price of , say... $2200. My guess is, that if things got really slow at the factory, maybe they'd kick out a limited run of a few dozen to satisfy existing "guaranteed" demand. I don't see that happening any time soon, though.

Me and JohnnyB agree on something! Way too "busy" on the drums. Seems he could hardly go more than two measures without a fill, which is a major groove-buster, IMO. Willie G. has a good point in that they were entering a new realm. Were they the first big "power trio"? I'm a bit too young to remember.

Maybe next year Austin .. If I wasn't in the middle of a job change, I'd have gone. Time to start planning a road trip for next year. I have room for a few passengers and gear in my van. And an ice chest. Maybe the friggin' gas prices will be down too!

Wow, Chris! Are you trying to make everybody sea-sick? Personally, I like the seafoam color and many of the solids. I'm partial to plain white, but I've yet to see a Hamer that stayed white. Must be something about the finish process or bleed-thru from the wood. I like some of the pearl finishes (especially white, of course) and I like the larger-flake metallics.

I have it blocked and I crank the microtuners all the way down. I just tune it from the headstock like normal people do.

The best thing is finding all the friends I didn't even know I had. I regret the fact we didn't have the big one in CT this year. I had such a blast last fall - but the time goes by so quickly. I think some road trips are in my future. Of course, I'll be glad to pick up any HFC hitchhikers that want to go along for the ride.

Yes, but a slow, methodical one. I'm becoming an advocate of trying different pickups to suit a players style and amplification. I just did an inventory and of all the guitars/basses that I've owned, only five have escaped the soldering iron. Of those, only my Carvin bass and my new Hamer Special remain original in the pickup department. The Special sounds OK, but I'm not sure if the (stock)P90's are for me. The guitar is so nice that there's no way I'd get rid of it, so a pickup swap is in the works. I want a humbucker in the bridge and so far I see that Duncan, Dimarzio, Rio, and GFS(?) make a drop in replacement. Decisions, decisions...

I will let the new owner identify himself if he wishes. And yes, they do look really nice with white pickguards.

Sunday Bump!

I've decided to part with my 5-string before my wife finds out what I bought on ebay. It's a '96 with the 2-Tek bridge and asymmetrical neck. It's very comfortable in your hands. The pickups are Duncan Basslines actives, but I don't know the model. This is a great sounding bass. The finish is white, but like many Hamers in this color, it has yellowed over time. This live shot best captures the "shade of fade". As you can see, under the lights, it's not an issue. The neck is about as perfect as you'll find and has very little fretwear. There are only two small nicks on the back and minimal button-rash on the back. I can take some closeups if anybody needs them. Thanks. $475 + shipping to lower 48. Paypal or postal money orders OK.

OK, the third one was sort of a joke on my part, but they do dump on the clean-cut types from the 80's. Watch an episode of "I love the 80's" and see how it's treated. Some of it is funny, but some isn't. I get a little humorless about drugs because of what my sister did to herself with them. I haven't seen her in ten years, but the rare phone conversation makes it clear that she's just a shell of the person I grew up with. Dumb as a brick... if you can even understand what she's saying. Sounds like a female version of Ozzy when she talks.

What if these great talents had their true abilities hindered by drug use instead? I'll be judgemental and say that they were great players, but wasted their talent by messin' with that junk. True, I can't understand the pain associated with being a millionaire rock star and having hot chicks throw themselves at me, but that's just the way I see it. It's funny how if you rise to fame then lose it all because of drugs, VH1 will do a documentary about you; especially if you make a comeback. If, on the other hand, you stay away from that crap all your life people treat you like you're some kind of prude. VH1 "Behind the Music" Formula: If you beat drug addiction, you're a hero. If the drugs kill you, you're turned into a "tortured genius" icon; elevate to god-like status If you say "No" to drugs, you're a loser. We'll do a different show about people like you. WTF?

Ted, Don't forget that the people who are already gone won't be counted in your poll. It's a real number, and you know it includes some good people who have said "screw it!" Whatever the case, you and the mods are doing OK in my book. I say keep deleting as you see fit, since it seems to be done in moderation anyway.
