  1. What America should do is ban both tobacco and booze and legalize the smoking of marijuana. You need to take that outside, Cheech! There's one about to be adopted here in NH too. I think the dip in audience numbers goes by quickly. There are many people who used to stay away from clubs because of the smoke that will now come out. I'm ambivalent about it because I don't smoke, but I still think club owners should be able to make reasonable accomodations on their own property. Of course, we have the volume nazis starting their bullshit now too. And band members can't drink either. This used to be the "Live Free or Die" state, until half of Taxachusetts moved up here. Now it's becoming the "Nanny-state." And you thought it was conservatives that took the fun out of everything..........
  2. I have a couple in waiting - a Deluxe Reverb and a Super Reverb chassis that both need cabinets. I may do something "unusual" with both of them as far as a speaker complement goes..... Then, there will be a '79 SVT rebuild including my first crack at tolex. As far as kits go, Weber has a big tube bass amp in the pipeline that is supposed to be available soon. Of course, that's what I thought 6 months ago. I may try that one once I clear the bench.
  3. The price sure has gone up since the 80's. Back then, Hamer would "Kahler" a guitar for $200 including the tremolo unit.
  4. sw686blue(36), DavidF(42), jerseydrew(42), killerteddybear(51) Happy Birthday guys!
  5. Greg does use a splint technique, but it looks a bit nicer when finished. He has several projects documented on his website like this one
  6. I saw Brad's family last night and spoke briefly with his son. It was a gathering of longtime friends and bandmates of his at a local nightclub. I didn't talk about his dad, other than to say I was sorry and what a great guy he was. I shared some memories with him of when he (John Michael Delp) and my daughter attended the same elementary school about 10 years ago. They're hanging in there as best they can. They were playing old Boston and RTZ music through the PA. A ballad "Until Your Love Comes Back Around" sent his ex-wife and daughter outside in tears. It was difficult to watch that and not get choked up. I know I did. I think he knew the pain he would cause, but still it didn't matter enough to stop him. I can't understand it.
  7. It appears this was not a sudden act of desperation, either. He thought this thing out to the last detail - and showed concern for others in the process. Damn. http://www.wmur.com/entertainment/11253135/detail.html
  8. That's my usual reaction to such an event too, but to call Brad selfish is really incorrect. He was one of the most selfless people you'd ever want to meet. He did all kinds of charitable stuff around here and was always a very giving person. Maybe too generous. Still, to leave your children and family wondering if there was something they could have done to prevent it is very selfish; but, you're talking about someone who's reached a mental state that defies logic and emotion. (edit to add: He had been divorced for many years and his kids are of college-age, living in California. It was his fiance' that was out all night.)
  9. Rumors have been floating around here for a couple days, confirmed today: http://www.wmur.com/entertainment/11253135/detail.html Too sad.
  10. I just went back and read the JFG lexicon. A true classic!
  11. No - I was thinking of someone else....... edit: or maybe even JazzFusionGuy - remember him? For those too new to remember: http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.p...c=11303&hl=
  12. Could it be.......................... you know.................him?
  13. All I know is when I loaned my Sunburst to the guitarist in my band, the sound (compared to his LP) was like night and day. The Hamer smokes that particular Les Paul hands-down.
  14. Boston was one; the other was David Gilmour in the solo to "Comfortably Numb"
  15. Seems reasonable. As long as you haven't passed that "threshold" of risking the loss or damage of the piece vs. the joy of playing it, then that's good. Plus, you can't take them with you. They were meant to be played!
  16. Would I like an old Strat or Les Paul? Hell yeah! But I couldn't really use it other than to record. I know the vintage pieces have a great sound, but if I'd be scared to take it out of the house, what good is it? Imagine a vintage piece crashing to the floor because some drunk tripped over a floor monitor. Since playing live is mostly what I do, I prefer utility to collectability, that's all. I've seen that sort of thing happen, so I don't use irreplaceable gear. For me, at some point, an aging guitar loses its utility value. Then I may as well hang it on the wall to impress my friends. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
  17. I think the Fralin unbucker is the Holy Grail. But that's just me. And maybe Messhugah.
  18. Get Shakira to have a major "wardrobe malfunction". It may not be as good musically, but I'd watch.
  19. The Pacific by DW kits are very nice, but maybe a little more than what you need. Point being, they fall into that "kid who lost interest" category, but are very nice quality drums. I took up the drums about 5 years ago myself.
  20. Me too. I kept thinking all that stuff would be the perfect lightning rod. He was all wireless, and in no more danger than anyone else on the field.
  21. First? The Chet Atkins Gretsch "Country Gentleman" From there, all of the Beatles guitars (and basses) then Rick Nielsen's Hamers.
  22. Actually, the bass is kind of a Mary Kay blonde, and it's lighter where the pickguard used to be. Stained by nicotine, perhaps? I might put the guard pack on. We'll see. Actually, I think it's a reaction to sunlight, or bleed-through from the wood. I had an opaque white cruise 5 that yellowed because it was obviously hanging in the front window of a store in Arizona. There were even inverse "shadows" of white next to the knobs and pickups. Weird. When I sold mine to Chris M., it had the tortoise pickguard, but he changed it to the white pearloid - which I think is a big improvement. That bass was the same kind of Mary Kay blonde, but a translucent white under the pickguard.
