2013 "Buy No Guitars" Challenge - **WINNERS ANNOUNCED**
Punkavenger replied to Feynman's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I'm still in! ... This Strat is awesome, my only other plans are building a partsocaster tele (jazzcaster?) next year and then picking up a SG for humbucker goodness somewhere down the road. -
If you like a IPA Hop Czar tastes great, has a high alcohol content and is on sale quite frequently. If you want a cheap American beer that just tastes ok PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) is popular amongst hipsters and white trash throughout the PNW Every single Samuel Smith variety I've ever tried has been fantastic ...

Your Opinions Please
Punkavenger replied to ptm1diver's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
If the price is within a hundred or two of your offer then go for it ... why suffer regret over a couple of hundred bucks? A. That is a somewhat rare guitar and T62's are sweet B. If resale value is a major concern buy a Gibson -

Value of the most expensive guitar you own?
Punkavenger replied to zorrow's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Perfectly happy with the Strat I got from Velorush ... but then it's a "good" one. Figure it's worth $800-$1000. Most of the Hamers I've owned were between $400 and $1000. Some of them were just excellent guitars and worth much more than the initial cost. GO HAMER! Like Feynman says ... I figure I easily could find what I want for $1500 or under, electric guitar-wise that is ... -

Hameritis never bothered me, I look at it as a quirky part of Hamer history. I'm PROUD of my Hameritis, damn it! Not as enthusiastic about the pizza day fingerprint thing. Thats just not right. -

Most excellent! -
If you buy the pickups directly from Bareknuckles then there is a15 day (or longer) grace period. Just contact Tim and he will make things right. Plus when you buy direct there is no tax and no shipping charge. (I'm pretty sure) Plus you can get a calibrated set and he will even tweak them a little bit for free. Wow

Have you listened to the sound clips on the bareknuckles site? The blackdog sounds awesome. I want to buy a humbucker equipped guitar just to put the mule/blackdog combo in it. https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/pickups.php?cat=humbuckers&sub=vintage_hot&pickup=black_dog Email Tim at Bareknuckles and see what he says ... Several people at the HFC have put the texas/BBQ combo in their FM's and just totally loved them. I must admit it's a perfectly good combo and sounds much better than the stock 59/JB ... I tried it and liked the texas neck but like I said the BBQ sounded very 70's classic rock and while that could actually be considered a good thing depending, not exactly what I was looking for. Plus with THE BBQ I didnt feel like there was enough oomph believe it or not. So I went with the Muy Grande which I liked much better. Maybe I was used to the great variance of the 59/JB combo? I dunno. The texas/muy grande combo is a good one in my opinion and the texas/bbq is also good, better that the SD's by a good margin. If you can pick up a used set for cheap on ebay, here or the gear page by all means buy them and check em out for yourself. I think I paid $90 each for the texas, BBQ and $150 for the Muy Grande. Plus you can always sell them for the price you payed. I understand your concern about the bridge pickup not having enough power ... as you can see I went from the fairly powerful BBQ to the even more powerful Muy grande but the lower output pickups just have so much more detail, they really sound beautiful. Dont forget it depends on your amp, pedals and playing style also. Good luck!

I didnt like the BBQ in my FM but loved it in my Phantom ... I'll shut up now YMMV
-
To be completely rational and scientific .... A. Knowing that the mule/neck sounds fantastic B. Mule bridge sounds a little flat/needs more oomph C. Knowing that you prefer low output pickups I would go with the next more powerful Bareknuckles bridge pickup which I think is the Blackdog. Email Tim at Bareknuckles... He's the owner and great at returning emails. https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/pickups.php?cat=humbuckers&sub=vintage_hot&pickup=black_dog This sounds perfect to me
-
The Mule/neck was incredible ... Mule/bridge I thought could be a little hotter.

Who Needs A Fucking Microwave??

TV yellow with P90's sounds awesome but once again those SD P90's suck (I feel bad because I know Seymour and his ex wife)... Lollars are the ticket All the SD antiquities pickups I've tried or that I know others have tried have been fantastic however
-
Both the FM's I had were the bomb! Best deal in a sturdy basic well made tone monster LP killer out there. Yeah, bet someone got a little too creative with the nut file I had a Bareknuckles Mule/ WCR Fillmore in my first FM and Rio's Texas/Muy grande in my second ... All sounded really good and better than the stock SD's (especially the mule) if you decide to try a little pickup change-a-roo in the future

Fortunately I have no money ( I can't believe I just wrote that) because that blue T-62 for $700 was a steal and that silver duotone was amazing too
