which low wattage tube amp ?
Punkavenger replied to Punkavenger's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Hmmm, I've checked everything I could on youtube and the internet and it seems that Harry is right again... at least the silverface Princeton sounds best to me however inaccurate that might be considering all the different electronic devices the sound waves have to travel through to finally reach my ears. Plus a pro music friend of mine has toured all over Europe and the US with just his 70's weird brown color Princeton for amplification and it serves him just fine. PLUS the dive bar where I will be doing open mic stuff ... Well, just let me say anyone bringing anything boo tiki into that place would probably get beat up in the parking lot. Anyway ... anyone have a line on a good cond. Fender silverface reverb get back to me Thanks! -
Howdy My living situation has changed and so I'm thinking about switching out amps again, although I still like my MB I need a good quality tube amp, most likely a 12" combo that A. Sounds good at low volume, like practicing in one room without bothering other people in the house kinda thing B. Is loud enough to play at a open mic w/loud drummer (could be miked, there is a sound man and system) C. Takes pedals well D. bulletproof ! E. I mostly play crazy alt rock and 60's style british blues w/ my special FM, rio grande pickups F. $1000 or less used please Thanks!

I had a mint cond. 90's Hamer Korean made Standard w/duncan distortions a few years back ... I sold it because the fret ends were rough. I wish I had thought to take it to a luthier to have that sorted out. It was a great guitar! -
Someday I'll build that Warmoth monster I've always wanted to build. Tele thinline body routed for humbuckers w/ big head strat 24.75 conversion neck I'm not sure what bridge would work with that, hmmm Edited to add, On second thought that Z3 looks perfect and I wont risk the chance of it sounding like crap!

These are pretty much all of my favorite Hamers right here. What Jol had to do with it I don't know and really don't care.

Has eBay lost is 'sparkle'?
Punkavenger replied to Willie G. Moseley's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
As far as the economy and ebay is concerned. You will always make more on ebay as opposed to the HFC or Craigslist, even though I don't do that anymore, its not worth it, the profit margin is zilch with todays economy, even on ebay. And speaking of the economy, of course its better to save your money rather than spend it of frivolous items (flipping houses, Acuras etc.) that has been a given since the beginning of civilization, but I really don't think that is the reason the US is in trouble. Another urban myth like Reagans false example of the welfare mom with the brand new Cadillac. Of all the hundreds of people I know only one that bought a house cheap to flip it and got into financial trouble. Whats that .25 percent, if I know 400 people? I do however know several good hardworking people (almost all of my close friends as a matter of fact, primarily in construction and electronics) that have been laid off and can't find work. I also know several people that have severe medical problems (unfortunately a lot of cancer going around, very sad and scary) and either had no medical insurance or insurance companys that refused to pay for this or that, thus leaving them in financial ruin. One friend went into the hospitat with pneumonia for four days, no operation, just antibiotics on a drip, $25,000, he will never be able to pay that back. I have a 45 year friend, a schoolteacher with several degrees, that just had to move back in with his Dad because he was laid off and not a Acura in sight! -
That sucks! Get better soon, man. Positive healing vibes headed your way ...

I always buy the best oil and filter possible, usually Castrol with a Wix filter ... its still cheaper than having it done at Jiffy lube or wherever

The reasons I love Hamer are A. You can buy sight unseen on Ebay etc and 90% of the time come up with an excellent guitar ... you can't do that with any other brand B. True, pickups sometimes do need to be changed out but thats usually the only thing C. Considering I'm only an amateur musician I can only justify $1000 max on guitar purchases and try to keep it to 2-3 guitars and one bass at a time. I'd love to have a nice LP but cant justify the expense ... Hamer is the only USA brand that I'm aware of where you can rival or surpass Gibson custom shop quality for a fraction of the price. The other brands out there, Carvin, Dean etc just seem cheap or weird to me. It's possible that I just haven't run across the better models in person but where do you do that? None of the guitar shops in Southern California or now Portland have a very good selection. Once again, Chinese junk or ultra dollar Les Paul/crappy vintage territory. D. From my experience the best place to buy a guitar is right here on the board. The Hamers I've bought here (and one Gibson) all ($1000 ea, or less ) have been top notch. Sometimes the seller will even go to the trouble and expense of having the guitar professionally set up before its shipped out. Where else will you find that?

The Penguin looks absolutely perfect for what you're doing... rock on!

I'm listening to Pandora One as I type this, $36 a year no commercials, thats $.10 a day! ... bought a cheap Y cable for $6.99 and hooked up to my Macbook pro ... awesome. You can find almost anything you want on here ... get tired of what they're playing ... just create a new station, takes seconds. Curious about a new band, just type in the name or song an check it out instantaneously ... doesn't rival vinyl for sound quality but not bad. Someday I'll buy the fancy Y cable JB recommended but for now I'm stoked. -
shit, yr almost as old as me
-
I created an Uli Jon Roth radio station on Pandora ... its been really cool so far ... Stuff I never listen too ... Paul Gilbert, Tony MacAlpine, Joe Stump, Vinnie Moore, Marty Friedman .....

its easy ... just do this!

well, seems you already have a lot of the classic metal i was gonna recommend. imho, the best pantera is their "best of" comp, same w/ MSG, & judas priest. some bands best collection is live; kiss "alive!", motorhead "no sleep til hammersmith", thin lizzy "live and dangerous". kings x are kinda metal at times, their heaviest and one of their best is "dogman". riot was more early 80's hard rawk, check out "fire down under". tool's 2nd & 3rd albums, "undertow" & "aeinma" are their best. much like some grunge (a.i.c., soundgarden), i like some of the stoner rock stuff because it sounds like early sabs; kyuss - sky valley & circus left town, c.o.c. - deliverence, in the arms of god, clutch - robot hive, pure rock fury, and lotsa scott "wino" winerich's bands albums; the obsessed - the church within, spirit caravan - the last embrace, hidden hand - divine propaganda, wino - punctured equlibrium. if you like rage against the machine, check out downset's self titled album. as for bands from the last 10 or so years, my fave album is the last mastodon album "crack the skye", it's missing the screamed vocals on their earlier albums, plus it's got more of a 70's prog metal vibe. also, disturbed have some cool pantera-ish riffs but w/ singing, i have a few tunes from "the sickness", "indestructable", & "ten thousand fists". after all those, i can only get into a song or two from some other metal bands... Yeah, I have most of the stuff listed (some I got from you ) ... Went to the record shop and they don't have much left. See >>> people still buy CD's, as long as they're cheap! Some good ideas in this and the other threads however. I want to pick up Megadeth "rust in peace" Yes "Relayer" ... Rainbows second one and some Pantera which I've never really heard. Also some early Priest and "no sleep til hammersmith" which I really should own. I did manage to find a copy of Kyuss "and the circus left town" for six bucks, so not a wasted trip. And on the way home I stopped and bought grocerys... the total was $21.12 Me (to checker) Did you know that was the name of an album? Checker- No, by who? Me- Rush Checker- Blank stare

Rust in Peast, and that would be "Megadeth:. -Austin Yeah, I know how its spelled ... I can also spell "peace" correctly ... imagine that!
-
Master of Puppets, and Ride the Lightning - IMHO the best of the Cliff Burton-era Metallica. They really were the best at one point! GH Dang ... Good one. Got those already. I also have Slayer's "south of heaven" which is pretty good ... Is there a really good Megadeath album? I also already own a copy of 'Ace of Spades" and the first few Iron Maiden Lp's (which I love)

Well since the passing of RJD and Cozy Powell, (hell, even Alex Chilton is gone). My curiousity is up about some of the "metal" from the late seventies to early 90's ... Plus the local record store is going out of business and i might be able to score a heavy metal gem or two at a great price. What do you suggest? I was never really into metal myself ... But was a big Black Sabbath and Deep Purple fan (I consider those more "classic rock") Best Rainbow album? Best MSG? Best album Cozy Powell is on ...? Something completely different? Trying to avoid anything too silly or "spinal tap esque" ... tight well produced (not over produced) heavy heavy heavy ... great bass/drums. Something truly spectacular. A bit proggy is Ok. Not poppy at all. A darker Rush without Geddy Lee on vocals? ... and the winner is ....
