  1. I just couldn't process some of it the first listen. From another planet. Now the second time I dropped the needle down, wow . . .
  2. How did such a Scion of our Hamer Community end up with a 1000+ member number? Slacking? lol.
  3. Hmmm . . .
  4. Having never dealt with the MAN himself, I can only operate off of second hand information (that rung true as events unfolded) and what he posted in his guru blogs. Given that, my opinion is that over the last 9 years of my Hamer lust, it is obvious that design-wise and what was allowed to be built was ALL Jol's vision. Believe he should get a lot of cred for maintaining a cohesive, vintagey vision that guided the overall Hamer vibe and did provide a certain identity. Quality Control went way up during the "Jol" years. New models got a number of GP gold stars. Problem is that he was -also- capricious, arbitrary, and prone to revising history. He was/is embarrassed by the Super-Strat everything-has-a-Floyd years, which a significant number of HFC-ers are fond of. His inflexibility, and what appears now to be an outsized ego are unfortunate and a definite detriment to Hamer. Regarding his departure from Hamer, we will probably never know the truth. But I'd sure bet a stack of money that it wasn't he that started the discussion on leaving. As far as a signature, defining guitar model, that is most certainly true. In recent years, within/constrained by the bounds of his vision, there were some that are olose, such as the Talledaga. But none were unique/revolutionary enough to warrant special attention that would lead to brand identification. Now that they are a Custom Shop only, it's likely there never will be.
  5. Bruce, give it a whirl; worth the trip. Jaye, been alternating between two 1x12s (2x and 4x are downstairs). Both are closed/ported. One with a Scumback 65 watt 16 ohm H75. The other is a mesa-like thiele cube with a 150 watt 8 ohm Fane Medusa. Leaning towards the Fane, esp if I have the SP in bump mode and really wound up.
  6. Thanks all! It definitely has it's own voice in the "stock" mode, and the 65 amps "bump" just brings in so many other options. Still have a lot of sonic exploring to do. Luckily, just happened to have a NOS Mullard EF-86 to drop in As far as power, it's not really up there with the big boys. 22 watts clean, 28 watts distorted. But yes, even at that, can leave your ears ringing if you don't use the master voltage control. It's labeled on the amp as master volume, but what it really does is bring down the B+ voltages for all stages.
  7. Got me a 65 Amps Stone Pony. Having a blast!
  8. Give Wolfetone Marshallheads a whirl. They're pretty clear pickups but with a good kick to em.
  9. My 79 Sunburst, s/n 9 1291
  10. I was more of a Yes fan back in the prog rock days ... but really more of a King Crimson fan now that I think about it ... and early Genesis w/Peter Gabriel 2112 rules. Do also believe Farewell to Kings is their best effort. I actually like Geddy's vocals.
  11. JohnnyB, The line I was referring to was not the PS spec, but the one that is under "Excellent Video Quality": Full HD 1080p Output - The BDP-80 features user selectable video output resolutions, including 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and up to 1080p 50 or 60Hz. That's what had me puzzled. It's under BDP-80, not the 83. Your explanation covers it; didn't know they upconvert the freq too. Thanks!
  12. JohnnyB, Should have known you were first responder on all things audio/visual, lol. What is the Oppo BDP-80 1080p 50/60 Hz spec mean? I thought that was too close to AC power to cause picture flutter? My Samsung runs at 240 Hz. Normally do a lot more detailed research first, but they were blowing out the TVs at a pricepoint I knew was good. BTW, for Oppo, what's the best way to purchase? I can only afford the BDP-80 model at this time. Thanks!
  13. Heh all, Brought this back to the top rather than start a new on. I am making the leap to Hi Def TV; Samsung LED 240 Hz 46 incher coming today and upgrading to HD Triple Play FIOS in a week. Am now looking at getting a Blue Ray player. Setup will be TV with FIOS upstairs. My wife has a Netflix account, so am exploring getting that routed to the TV upstairs too. Internet will be downstairs on an existing network; replace cable with FIOS. Plan to plug the FIOS wireless router into the existing hardwire one for both Netflix as well as connectivity for laptops. Still reading up on how to do that (playing with DHCP, blah blah). Anyway, that means I want a WiFi capable player. Do have an extensieve DVD library already, so upconverting(?) is pretty high on my list. Picture quality too. However, don't want to spend a lot of coin, cause have blown a bunch in the last week already, lol. Being able to get something NOW would be cool too, cause it's be a week before the FIOS comes. Thanks all!
  14. The ones in the poll: Mercyful Fate Megadeth Helloween Venom Kreator Death Bathory Motorhead Voivod Anthrax I'd expect Mercyful Fate or Megadeth to get it, but I'd go for Motorhead. Alan Voted for Motorhead before I got to this far down the thread! Let's go stuff the ballot box.
  15. SITs are stupid good for $3 and change, but they're not top echelon. Is there anyone here who knows how Snake Oil stacks up against the good stuff like Thomastik-Infeld, Black Diamond, La Bella, Elixir, Pyramid, Optima, etc.? I'm perfectly happy with SITs. Are they as good as the SOBs? Not quite, but closer than any other strings I've tried. Honestly, have just gotten tired of trying different strings, finding the "right" one, only to have them either disappear or change their source/formula. SIT looks like it's gonna be around and they make their strings in their own factory in the US. I replaced a set of SOB Rock Formula Strings with the SIT PowerWound on a mostly mahogany guitar; they are nickel -plated-. If you're looking for a warmer tone to replace the SOB regular (nickel), then try the Power Groove
  16. Hold it; you're the love child of Duanne and Gregg Allman?
  17. For guitar brand, no. For guitar type, yes. Heritage 150 with Gibby T-Top for 73 era Page. Have to admit that when I started on bass many moons ago, that did come into play (McCartney, Chris Squire, Lemmy). But that was because no one made a Rickenbacker-sounding bass except Rickenbacker.
  18. Good Q. If he were feeling Dumble-ish, you'd go to the end of the line.
  19. Serial, BCR Greg, Jisham, Butcher, Elduave, Len, and whoever I bought that Laney from. Keep missing Zygotic Chris. We were at the same Cheap Trick Concert!
  20. I should've quoted the above in my post. That's what I was responding to- by the standards of The Gear Page, that's not an unusually large stash of gear. Sorry for the confusion. DOH! I see now and agree.
  21. It's still there, as of this posting: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=575736
  22. For the guitars, they are high. Some of the non-corksniffer pedals are good prices tho. Amps kinda in-between.
  23. No connection with the seller, blah blah blah. He posted on the Gear Page board, but here's the direct linkee: http://csaposgear.blogspot.com/
  24. Isn't it time for "I will call me credit card company" maneuver? Dainius You ever get a chance to try those SIT strings?
  25. Almost ordered it online, but wanted to find out the shipping options so I called their 800 number. The nice lady asked for the product number (#701815), and then told me the price was 49.99. Had her read back the name of the product to be sure, and sure enough it was the Ultimate Bundle. Ordered it immediately, LOL.
