  1. So nice of them to keep it real by recording to tape with a microphone and make it all organic-like..... so I can download it from iTunes! Ah, maybe I give them a few points for trying to think about what it is they're doing, and why. I didn't watch the show as I find artist award shows a complete bore.
  2. I love the old subtle use of a Bigsby like that of Les Paul and Brian Setzer. For newer stuff, this one was pretty good:
  3. After seeing this product, I think that's what I'm going to do to my trem guitars: https://super-vee.com/whats_new.html
  4. Cat pee, basement mildew funk, cigarette smoke stank, unwiped sweaty guitar storage.... and some of them just get beat up. I'm in the process of gently relic'ing the exterior of my Artist case these past couple of years. FWIW, you can buy just a case from a Hamer dealer. I did it to replace one that came with my Eclipse 12 a few years back.
  5. Something with boomers A Standard
  6. Didn't buy or sell any guitars, basses, or pedals. I quietly rode out the year still recovering from a divorce and the subsequent dislocation that had brought. This was the rebuilding year, and it was great. I spent a good deal of time on the motorcycle and with my girlfriend. We took a nice road trip to DC and visited BCRGreg and Chris Matthes along the way. I really enjoy meeting fellow HFCers. Looking forward to a great 2012
  7. Marvin Nina Simone - always loved this sultry classic:
  8. Peter comes through again!
  9. Anything in baby-poop yellow like this Centablo: A close second would be the headstocks on the first gen Cruisebasses. Hideous.
  10. Yes, bass is a power-hog. It is generally better to run through a crossover and steer your lows to a sub and let the mains carry the mid/high frequencies. It also helps to maintain proper phase relationships with the various signals.
  11. Craigslist keeps reminding me why I play solo....

  12. Shouldn't they all be nicknamed "Geezer" at this point? God love them - if they still have something in their hearts then I'm always happy to see the older rockers keep going. If it's just for money, it shows quickly.
  13. They were notoriously cheap on their trade-ins or cash purchases. Back in '82, I was shopping in the Portsmouth store and a guy walked in with a '79 Sunburst. They offered him $150 for it. (He was looking for $300) I followed the guy outside and bought it on the street for his asking price. Still have it too.
  14. Interesting tidbit: This guy Hirsch who's been referenced a couple of times here is Hirsch Gardner, the drummer for the band New England. His daughter and mine went to high school together.
  15. I bought all the gear I currently own from Daddy's. Very sad day for me. I've bought a variety of stuff over the last 30 years from them. Gonna' be weird, but I hope it at least helps out the mom-and-pops
  16. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2011/10/26/dadd...-all-locations/ Damn - they closed a few stores first, but now the whole New England chain is gone.
  17. I did just recently, on my way down to DC. Picked up some jenny-wine Hamer pots for the old Sunburst while I was there. Quite the collection of guitars and amps for its size. Girlfriend kept me from snagging a sweet 1st gen cruisebass that was there...
  18. I'm working on it... Your brother is helping with some background info for me, and I'll see if I can get a decent picture of it. Ha! Now, possibly... He buzzed the hair Just a little update: Things are going well for the young man, and he's been made a house engineer at Vai's Mothership Studio in Hollywood. They're in the process of renovation and opening to the public now. Quite a client list they've got there over the years. http://www.mothershipstudio.com/ Spread the word!
  19. Last month, my son got a call to interview for an assistant recording engineer's job in LA. It's a big home studio, with lots of projects that need attention. Long story short: he gets the job. Things have gone well and he hits it off great with the boss - so well that he gets invited to come hiking and camping with him and his son for a weekend in north-central California. They had a great time and got to talk for hours around the campfire. I'm proud and a little jealous, at the same time.... Of course my son Sean is still too intimidated to play a guitar in front of him....
  20. you mean these? http://www.cafepress.com/hamerfanclub
  21. I like chili and beer. But seriously, when I joined here, I was primarily a bass player so I got to thinking about a name that would represent low powerful sounds, and Thundernotes came from that.
  22. Some real nice playing there!
  23. They do make a nice guard for polishing your frets: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Fretting_suppl...ard_Guards.html
  24. According to the website: Dieses Angebot (270685771673) wurde entfernt oder der Artikel ist nicht verfügbar. "nicht verfügbar"........ That just sounds bad, don't you think? Actually, I think it means "the auction was cancelled or the item is no longer available."
  25. Congratulations to your family. It's always great to have these proud moments.
