No Love For Blackface Bandmasters
crunchee replied to Dutchman's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
There are definite design differences between a 'regular' reverb-less Bandmaster and the Bandmaster Reverb, but at the end of the day it all depends on your ears and hands: -

IMO, I think the old big-head BMRs are underrated...if you look at the specs and the schematic, they look a lot to me like the same year Super Reverb, except you don't have to haul the amp and speakers all at once. It's a lot easier on the shins too, since you don't have a loaded 4x10 amp banging you in the shins every time you take a step. -
This might affect some HFC members, both here in the US and in the UK/Europe, due to the change in the value threshold: DHL suspends shipments of more than $800 in response to Trump tariff plan Will the change in the value threshold affect used and new guitar shipments from Japan? The article doesn't say, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

New Fenders being discounted at Dave’s
crunchee replied to Pieman's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
MSRP = Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. IIRC, unless there's some other kind of legally binding agreement between the dealer and the manufacturer, then 'suggested' just means that--suggested. -

Looks to me that they're trying to move inventory while the sellin's good. Kinda. Maybe. -
Congrats on the snag! IIRC, the Switchcraft 'barrel' type jacks that USA Hamers have, do get worn out and eventually need replacing. They usually cost around $10-15 bucks or so each, here in the US.

Me too as well...the last guitar I bought brand new (not just 'mint', not just 'unused') was a USA Hamer, if that tells you anything about how long ago that was.

...and that's why I don't buy new guitars. GLWTS!

Anyone own or have owned one of these?
crunchee replied to ARM OF HAMER's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
The neck joint on this guitar reminds me a lot of a Seventies Travis Bean guitar...I'm linking this example so that everyone can look and compare (no affiliation, besides its in Australia): Travis Bean TB1000A Artist Natural 1977 | Reverb Anybody notice the weight that was mentioned in the link that specialk posted in this string? 10 1/2 lbs....not a lightweight, plus with all that maple its likely to be very bright-sounding. -

Any mention or photos of the headstock or other identifying markings? That might help. -
Plain mahogany Specials with HBs might have come out of the factory in random batches, it's not like it would have disrupted production to put out a few, especially since they'd have to rout for two PUs anyway. There's a few people who've worked at Arlington Heights and/or New Hartford here on the HFC that might know for sure. IIRC, back in the day (mid-late '90s, early 00s), they could be found now and then on the used market (I think I bought a used one once upon a time long ago, now long gone), and they weren't usually priced at a premium either...usually at about $600~$700 with case easily.

I noticed the set neck construction right away, and that suits me just fine. I'm not a fan of neck-thru guitars, they're a PITA at a minimum if neck problems show up. Not having that is just one less thing to worry about. Edited to add: As long as a set neck version is cheaper than a neck-thru version, I'll be happy.

I've never heard of the 'platypus' moniker being used with Gibson Firebirds before, but there is a supposed brief period of 'transition' Firebirds with a mix of features being made in the summer of 1965 (scroll down to the section with the photo of the guy wearing a striped rugby shirt to read more, the article is more than just about custom colors): Vintage Guitars Info Gibson custom color finishes on Gibson vintage guitars I kinda like this 'platypus' design, hopefully it's cheaper to buy than a neck-thru version.

You too can smell like an elderly Rawk N' Roller. No mention of any 'herbal ingredients' or fragrances mixed in with the soap, though: The Rolling Stones Dr. Squatch... - Rock N Roll Experience | Facebook I think this video was well before Dr. Squatch. Sudsy!
