  1. How was the fret wear? Did you give it up recently? Never mind It's gone.
  2. Great question - over the last 25 years two silver face Vibro Champs Mesa Boogie 50 Caliber Plus Peavey Classic 50 2x12 Peavey Classic 50 4x12 Peavey Classic Delta Blues1x15 (maybe it was a 2x10) Sano something other Ampeg 1x15 Epiphone Devon? 3. Maybe Jack's what inspired Eastwood Guitars' current lineup, which features a huge assortment of affordable Airline style guitars, and a couple of bass models as well. And before that it was David Lindley who fuel the love for map guitars. Ain't that right Willie?
  4. Wasn't he fronting The Raconteurs, anyway? Maybe Meg could team up with Richard Carpenter.
  5. Wasn't there an old board? And we registered for this - - the new - - board? How many members were on the old board?
  6. I don't have the gripes some of you have with Jol, but he strikes me as stubborn. If that helped elevate the quality of Hamer products, that's great. But he also strikes me as narcissistic. and we may have fed his ego. I think it's okay if somebody calls you legendary, as long as it's not you doing the speaking. The irony is Jol writes "For the most part, I view lingering in the past as a cry for help." Well, Jol is citing the GP Editor's Picks and all that which strikes me as lingering in the past. It's nice to look at the laurels but not rest on them. A couple questions: Any thoughts on how much it cost to set up his new shop with those tools? Has he ever contributed to this board? Anybody think he's lurking here?
  7. No more models with a associated with a "car" like Daytona or Newport or Talladega.
  8. That would work if "Dantzig" was on the headstock. I would be very surprised if he ever again builds a guitar in a business that he owns or has controlling ownership. Not at his age. Maybe he outsources production. That would be it.
  9. Cool guitar. That picture of the innards causes me to ask: do metal-bodied guitars pose any extra risk of electrocution? Sorry, to be a downer. I just have my products liability specs on.
  10. Is somebody saving this from Paul? This is incredible. Shouldn't he be given a thread that captures his stories and insight? This is incredible. There could be a book here. (Moseley?) I have been at this board and its predecessor for a long time and Mr D never gave us anything like this. Thanks. * * * * * * ** * And a question: Paul: Where the the idea of "14 coats" come from, especially when some folks would theorize that thin skins allow the wood to breathe? Thanks
  11. It is somewhat fitting - - and I am not being sacrilegious - - that this Easter weekend I have a sense of hopefulness, revitalization or resurrection of the Hamer heritage. The last few months have not been been particularly positive. But info coming out of Connecticut and the appearance of Paul Hamer here is innervating. Onward, lads.
  12. Jol might have signed a separation agreement with gag restrictions for a certain time period. Kind of like Conan's deal with NBC. Also, somebody said something to the effect - - "be nice to Fender, they let us use the Hamer name, etc." I have two Fender guitars and two Fender amps. I like a lot of what they produce, now and in the past. I have no reason to bash Fender products. I can certainly say, however, that I don't like some business decisions -- but where I say that might be contested by Fender. I think there is some fair use of the term Hamer that would give people the right to continue to use this board (perhaps excluding some proprietary assets owned by FMIC, if FMIC objects) or to start another Hamer board. Of course, that might not prevent Fender's legal dept from firing off a cease and desist letter to SCARE people about using intellectual property owned by FMIC. There are plenty of boards out there (think Studebaker or Packard) that exist for hobbyists. What can't I have a board that allows somebody to post: "PSA Talladega on Ebay". Or, a post that describes the difference from a four-digit Std and a 90s or 2000s Std. Unless I am using Hamer in the name to generate a profit (example: unauthorized use of "Hamer Sales and Repairs of Lemoyne ") or to link me to the Hamer business entity, I should be free to continue to talk about Hamer. Jeez, I wish I had a dollar for every complaint posted here about the inability to custom order boomers, etc. , either pre- or post-Fender. And what about the 100s of Walmart Sucks boards. FMIC, if it wants to continue the Hamer line, needs boards like this to generate interest. Maybe somebody has a link to post about fair use of terms at a website. I wil look at IP for Dummies when I get a chance.
  13. I wonder if he had a contract and a non-compete agreement. He might not be making any guitars for at least six months. Actually, it might be funny to see his take on a Hamer variation. Or on a Fender. At any rate, if they don't sell him the business (and why would they since they are making other brands there), it could take a while to set up a new shop, stockpile the wood, etc.
  14. Yeah, gone. Just after he finshed that custom order shredder with boomers for Warren. If you think this is sad fo us, think about those guys who moved from Illinois and the people he raised to make some might fine made-in-America product. They are true craftsmen. Or the dealers. Think about the dealers. And the mouths they have to feed.
  15. Not to be silly but is the "Hamer crew" building "custom order" Guilds or production guilds or both? Greg, I owe you a call about that Standard you sold me on in December. For the rest of the world, this is related to this thread. In December Greg posted photos of a Standard that somebody walked away from. Supposedly one of the last of the prod line whatevers. Quite frankly I am not sure if I believe all of this stuff about the last of the prod line guitars but I trust what Greg says. It was the first new Hamer I ever bought and I have owned only 4-6 (currently have two). Greg almost had to talk me into it because it was before Christmas, tuition bills were on the table, etc. I bought it because I drink the Hamer Kool-Aid and am not sure that there will be any other chances to pick up a Standard built while the company was focused on Hamers and seemlingly comfortable in their zone. It was exactly the questions being raised here that caused me to buy this. It cost me twice what I ever spent on a guitar. Was it worth it? To me yes. If forced to flip it, I'd lose a good chunk, but this is not going anywhere. I will shoot some photos soon.
  16. When did Jol become the controlling shareholder? Isn't he just a paid exec, at this point. Mind you, not an unenviable position - - he draws a check and does his thing. While probablyworrying about the staff and all the mouths they feed. In any other economy, he would probably be looking for the dough to buy out the business - - if he believes in it. Or the equipment if he wants to become his own master again. Just sayin'.
  17. [ I have a Revival. In a word: FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! Outside your range me thinky. You migt be thinking of Breedlove Revivals and those are too rich for me. Here's the one from GP http://www.revivalacoustics.com/gp0609_gea...undup_pg106.pdf
  18. With my IRS refund, I hope to have some dough to buy a budget priced steel string.. Would replace my old lifeless/too big Ibanez. Budget $500-600, but definitely under a grand. I don't need a cutaway or electronics Mostly for flat picking and some finger picking Would probably be used by my smallish 13 year old daughter when she is not on piano or FaceBook. Looks like Takamine and Breedlove are they big two in this price range. Are there Taylors or Larrivees in this price range.? GP gave Revival Accoustic the Editors Pick last year in a bdget shoot-out. Maybe I'll just drive over to Elderly in Lansing when I am in Detroit. On another point, there seems to be more accoustic/electrics at this price point than pure accoustics. To my ears, when plugged in, they usually sound like they are strung with rubber bands. Does the electronica take away from the natural sound unplugged? Maybe I need to find an accoustic guitar board but I trust this board. Thanks
  19. I had the 50 Cal and sold it. It sounded sterile to me. My Vibro Champ sounded better. I wish I bought the 22 at the time, tough. I was going to ask if you had the master volume pedal. So many of these get sold without the switch. How does the EQ switch work?
  20. Could a big factor be the market itself. Consider that in the last 15 years the number of guitars manufactured has just exploded. Not just by quantity but by manufacturer. In the 80s Fender was forced to use its Japanese affiliate to produce until it could get the US operations up to snuff. Then it was build 'em in Mexico, then Korea, China, Indonesia and now India. Fender-philes are raving about the Fender 50s Vibe Tele for $350. Two years ago it was the "51" model. And these are Squires. Not even MIM Fenders. I bought a 51. (I would by the Vibe Tele if I weren''t paying off a new Standard from BCR.) The Fender line has something for everybody at every price point. We snear at the Hamer imports but there are quite a few decent low-end guitars by many other manufacturers. And look at the new revived manufacturers such as Eastwood or Danelectro, or offshored makers like Reverend. (I have a Dano re-issue and a Reverend). If I have $700 burning a hole in the pocket, I could pick up a fine used Hamer (but somewhat similar to my other Hamers), or I could buy a decent new guitar or a used one for 1/2 that and it would give me a different tone, a different feel and heft. The fun factor is there. I am buying a new Standard from Greg from Hamer overstocked inventory. I didn't need it, although I have wanted one for years. The discount price was too much to pass up, especially if Hamer will now become a custom shop and won't be making "run-of-the-mill" Hamers. There will be likely fewer dealers selling new stock Hamers. Take advantage of the Eddie's Guitar deals now. You will need to pay $4000+ for those next year, new, if you want one. And that is way too rich for me.
  21. Welcome aboard! That rig even LOOKS loud. Pedals?
  22. Bubs, you are a good man to let this go for lttle or no profit. You could have easily gotten $600 and nobody would have complained. A toast to Bubs.
  23. If those were original to the guitar, it would seem a shame to see them separated, IMHO. Hope I don't get flagged for this view.
  24. Did "we" ever hear from Bruce again? I missed this entire thread back when, so thanks.
  25. Geoff, if it ain't your cup of tea, let me know. I might even buy another of your slide guitar DVDs. Thanks tk
