I dont know. But it was across the board w/ the Steiny, Strandy, and Kiesel. When I spend that kinda money on a guitar, I have to be completely satisfied with it. The Kiesel was especially nice, it sounded best w/ a DiMarzio Super Distortion, but I'd put it down and grab my partscaster or Ibby and would be shocked how much better they sounded distorted. EDIT - in hindsight, I should have put an EQ pedal in the loop and dialed it in, but the newness had faded and I was moving on, as we do. Edited January 21 by Brooks 1 Quote

Brooks Posted January 26 Posted January 26 (edited) The Ibby Q52 arrived. Great neck and frets, plays great, pickups are kinda meh. Tried it sitting in on my pal Marks gig last night, I dig it. Gonna give it the loud distorted amp test later today, but since I'm not gigging any hard rock stuff anymore, its no longer a deal killer (which makes me wish I had kept the Kiesel). But, its easier to forgive shortcomings on a $650 used Ibby than a custom ordered $1900 Kiesel, ha. Edited January 26 by Brooks 8 Quote

Jimbilly Posted January 27 Posted January 27 (edited) I find I'm looking more closely at a 'sit on the couch and play' type guitar, -that Strandberg design is intriguing. Sire has a new one per a video of their Namm display, the 7 string is on their website but the 6 is not. Sire might be on the short list of the new low-price offerings, it seems to be a reliable brand. I have a Sire 5 string bass (the V9), it's pretty much what I expected based on what I've read here and elsewhere: great player and the little low cost fit/finish clues are only visible upon close inspection. It and the Ibby really do sit in your lap nicely. Look also at the Eart Starndberg body type that has a normal neck and price too. 5 Quote
beezerboy Posted January 31 Posted January 31 I read this last week and kina went looking. over on evilbay there was this. I marked it and a couple days later got an offer... $970, free shipping. I didn't bite. but I thought about it Strandberg Boden Essential 6 Headless Guitar, Rosewood Fretboard, Astro Dust 1 Quote
jwhitcomb3 Posted January 31 Posted January 31 I ordered a Salen Classic NX from Sweetwater about two years. It was terrible - lousy fret work, buzzing, sloppy workmanship. Nothing close to what I would expect from a guitar in its price range. I returned it immediately and have no further interest in Strandberg. 1 Quote

Jimbilly Posted February 3 Posted February 3 The Sire bass I have is quite nice, I expect these will be very good, pre-order only now it seems. https://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/collections/fresh-gear-new-guitars/products/sire-larry-carlton-x6-headless-6-black-satin-2223353?srsltid=AfmBOorgX2EXnvw9jC7pC1_3XRraLJFUMgerR-lBPkMdMDYbPrIc8Nja 1 Quote

Whaddaya think about it? a) yes b) initial impressions positive but have barely had time to play it I hope that changes at some point in which case I will post more EDIT: c) I didn't hate it right out of the bag for the short amount of time I plugged it in to make sure things worked, which I thought was a definite possibility. The low e/a strings were buzzy but that was pretty easy to fix. They guy I got it from hadn't loosened the strings before shipping, but it arrived pretty much in tune d) again just first impressions but it seemed very easy to play. not sure how to describe it. BUT, in person I found the difference quite noticeable when I switched between my regular guitars and my headless guitars when playing alone with an amp. In a band mix (or modeler) thru studio monitors they might be fine, I dunno. I do have some beefy DiMarzios on the way for my new Ibby Q52, which I freakin' LOVE playing. 1 Quote

I'm sure it would be fine as is for practice, and I've got a spare set of EMGs (85 with a broken tab, and a 60) in the parts drawer, those might be a good fit for something like that. 1 Quote
