We’re moving from Bucks County, PA to Plano, TX in a few weeks.  As much as I’d like to avoid it, I may have to put the guitars in shipping boxes and let the movers take them.  Has anyone used smart tags in the control cavities when shipping guitars?  I’m paranoid enough about damage during shipping, but the risk of losing the guitars altogether … ugh

NO effing way! 😬

I would NEVER ever trust my guitars to a moving company. I don't care which moving company you use~

Raising a question I don't have the answer to - if the control cavity is shielded for noise suppression, would that also suppress the smart tag communication signal?

I'm also in the don't trust the movers camp.  Computers, guns and guitars travelled with me while I sent furniture, sheets and clothes, pots and pans in the moving truck.

I like the way you think.  I didn’t consider that angle, but seems like the answer may depend on whether the shielding effectively creates a faraday cage and at what frequency the signal air tag / smart tag is operating at.

What about using PODS as a moving service? They drop off a shipping container in front of your residence and you load it yourself.

I'm looking to bail on Cali in a few years. I'm thinking that boxing up my guitars and properly packing the PODS container would be safer than a moving van packed by idiots that hate their job. I won't have enough room in my vehicle for all the cases (although, If I get off my ass and sell 4 or 5 there may be enough room, LOL).

I used the U haul version of pods to move my mom out to Georgia from California 15 years ago. It worked out well. She had fragile black lacquer furniture with all the very intricate inlays she brought from Korea years ago. With our careful packing (and I guess they didn't drop any of the big pods while moving a few thousand miles) everything arrived unscathed.

I too would not trust anyone with guitars, artwork, computers and guns/ammo on our move to NC. Those were all packed into our own vehicles.

So, move them like that, rent a u haul trailer for that stuff or pods for the important stuff.

Ugh.  With all this kind of stuff, I'm leery to buy some stuff, but hasn't stopped me getting guitars here and there.  Been fortunate that I haven't encountered any disasters.

Computers I wouldn't worry about. Have a backup and bring that with you or have it on a service (preferably both). Those are easily replaced (unless you have a Cray or Big Blue).
