G Man Posted January 11 Posted January 11 I know a lot of you are not fans of the good old Grateful Dead, but this one hurts. Booby Weir passed today at the age of 78. A master rhythm player with a unique style that helped the dead be the dead. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/bob-weir-grateful-dead-dead-obituary-1234810106/ 3 7 Quote
Willie G. Moseley Posted January 11 Posted January 11 ^^^This. I won the Dead's first album in '67 in a bet with a friend about the final episode of The Fugitive (starring David Janssen). I'd never heard anything like Viola Lee Blues" and ws immediately hooked. Garcia later acknowledged that back then, "...everybody thought Weir was a girl." Few bands became massive institutions, but the Dead succeeded in a unique manner, which is particularly notable since they didn't have many bona fide hit songs...but they weren't seeking to be pop stars. 4 Quote
beezerboy Posted January 11 Posted January 11 nobody did it like the Dead. way too many things I could say but settle on.... gonna miss you Bobby. you helped bring peace, honor, and love to a couple generations. the world is a little bit darker place without you 1 Quote
Spinaltap Posted January 11 Posted January 11 (edited) I saw the GD 40x and Bobby with Ratdog and GD off shoots another 40x or so after Jerry passed. I always liked the music more than the scene. Another legend gone. Yeah, it bothers me... I'll listen to a Bobby and the Midnight's show later today.. RIP Edited January 11 by Spinaltap add to comments 1 Quote

Dave Scepter Posted January 13 Posted January 13 It's the playoffs, and I've been watching a lot of football clips and caught a screenshot of George Kittles homage to Bob Weir on his foot before the game against the Eagles... GO NINERS 🏈 3 1 Quote
Ranger Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Yep, like losing that favorite uncle who was at every family gathering and bought me beer when I was a minor. "A broken angel sings from a guitar.” 2 Quote
