RobB Posted March 24 Posted March 24 (edited) Great Ceasar’s Ghost! It was a Diablo at one time. Edited March 25 by RobB 1 3 Quote
Dave Scepter Posted March 24 Posted March 24 (edited) Any pictures of the back?.. looks like a hardtail... and that nut area look suspect... what's up with that Queensryche deco?.. looks like you'd have extra holes to deal with once you removed it... would be cool as a hardtail tho~ I'd personally pull all that stuff off and put staggered tuners on 🤘 Edited March 24 by Dave Scepter 1 Quote

scottcald Posted March 24 Posted March 24 (edited) That's a Diablo that's been mangled. Diablo II has the HSH setup. I don't think any were hardtail. Edited March 24 by scottcald 1 Quote
mathman Posted March 24 Author Posted March 24 I’ve wanted one of the super strat hamers for some time but not wanted to spend too much. It played and sounded great and the plates could be replaced. But didn’t think the price fit the modifucktations. 3 1 Quote

cmatthes Posted March 25 Posted March 25 I’d take it for $350. if somebody paid ME $350 to take it, that is. 5 Quote
mrjamiam Posted March 25 Posted March 25 I get that we're by and large a bunch of crusty aging, ahem, value-oriented guitar enthusiasts anchored in lore of deals of the past. Also that guitars, in addition to being instruments for producing music (which, as Louis Black observed, goes in the EARS) they are also often - but not in this particular case - works of art (which goes in the EYES). And of course there is the handling quality. But a guitar can only be original once. That ship has sailed for this poor Diablo. Still, one can choose to await the under-the-bed find and hope the owner/inheritant/seller doesn't fully grasp the potential time capsule value of the full eyes-ears-and-hands package so that a deal can be had, or look at what is available in the market. I appreciate the visual appeal of a cool guitar, but personally I place the eyes value last. What does it take to get good bones these days - quality wood, assembled properly? The electronics and hardware can be changed to taste. Empty holes, rattle cans and skateboard tape were good enough for St Edward, and I personally don't think a natural finish is right for a superstrat. I don't imagine many of crusty aging us have any real strict discipline in maintaining a profit margin for resale of our favorite obscure brand - Hamer doesn't appear to be the dealer's choice for flipping. In times of diminishing supply of discontinued guitars from a defunct manufacturer and stubborn inflation, what is the right price for a solid foundation for a player instrument? At least until the great boomer die/sell-off finally arrives and the market is flooded. 1 Quote

There's a lot of good deals from private sellers mixed in with what's overpriced on Craigslist or FB marketplace. Do the legwork at pawn shops and great deals come up regularly (ask me how I know...). Cheap/ low cost import stuff can be quite playable (Harley Benton, Eart, Firefly, I'm sure there are other brands), and having a low value guitar to haul around has some benefits. My two picks for best value right now are: Peavey usa LTD ST, you can still get those for $1k or less in great condition and all original, beautiful and fantastic guitars. Ibanez Premium (AZ series and a signature model are what I have), very well spec'd with DiMarzios and Gotoh hardware, those won't hold their value like the Peavey mentioned above, but really really nice guitars. Honorable mentions include: upper end LTD and Schecter, Edwards, very recent Epi LPs. I've had/have examples of each of those, they can be low cost to purchase, and often have real DiMarzio, Duncan or Fishman pickups, and good hardware. Edited March 25 by Jimbilly 3 Quote
JPDIII Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I'd really like to find a nice Diablo II. I'll keep looking. Pete Davis Quote
