Hamer Guitar Blowout

The vast majority (if not all) Hamers sell for below retail price. Other brands too, for that matter.

that depends greatly on the dealer...

If you're saying this based on my comment, show me a dealer who charges full retail for anything and I'll show you a dealer who won't be in business for long.

Freds Music here in Reading Pa will gladly charge you full retail. They have the list price on the tag and I know of a few novice guitar players who have paid the full retail price. One guy I know bought a Martin as his first guitar and was more than shocked when he went to trade it in on an electric. I don't shop at Freds. I'd rather drive over and hour to go to BCR music.

I contacted Fred's about a guitar over 10 years ago. They were asking full list then too. I asked if that was their best deal (they said it was - "Find another!"). Within 15 minutes, I had found two IDENTICAL guitars from dealers who actually wanted to sell something and ended up with a nearly local sale in the end.

Yeah...who gives a shit whether or not the store owner can feed his family or pay his help a decent wage huh?.....Just get your gear as cheap as absolutley possible and when you've drained whatever local mom and pop store and run them into the ground and out of business...just move on to the next and do the same thing.....hell!! what do you care!!!

I'm all for paying a FAIR price for anything I purchase. I prefer to support my favorite establishments and go where I get the best service and deal with people I trust. Asking LIST price and hoping some fool will pay it is snarky in my opinion.

Remember, I have to feed my family too! :)

Thats what I meant...a fair price is cool but the bottom feeders that grind, twist and gouge for the lowest rock bottom price..... :P

Fred is famous around here for being a dick. Some days he's great and other times he's just plain rude so I just don't go there. But it just eats at me when somebody takes advantage of somebody elses lack of knowledge. Face it if you find out that you paid full retail for a product that normally sells for 30% off list your never going back to that store. I don"t begrudge a guy for making a living but thats not the way to get repeat cusomers. It's like the contractor that sees a BMW in your driveway and raises the price by half.

I support my local mom and pop store it's just that the the one I support is an hour and a half away. I like BCR Gregs store he has the prices marked on all the equipment and there is no dicking around haggling to find out what the price is and as far as friendly service you can't beat it, the only negative is he won't brew me decaf coffee. To me it's worth the drive.

"he won't brew me decaf coffee"

that's cuz Decaf was created by SATAN!!!!!

he probably won't sell you a guitar for $666 either..... :)

I was going to write something detailed, but it comes down to this: If you're that cynical, get into a less competetive business. Or suck it the hell up and service your clients well enough that they'll pay more. Probably better that you did the latter, since you seem to like being around all the equipment, and you know it can be done because many folks DO keep their local stores in business. Hell, Platzer's got the local store for folks 90 miles away, as posts here will attest.

MF and Guitar Center have been around long enough that local stores know what they're up against and pulling the guilt card is getting really old. EVERY ONE OF US doing business is in a similar boat and we all have to compete.

And, NO deal entered into voluntarily is not fair. If you don't get a good enough price, you don't have to make the sale. Barring extortion or theft, you don't have to part with something for less than some amount you decide. Pissing and whining that someone's a bottom feeder does no good. If soemone won't pay you enough, either you didn't present enough value for the amount of money you wanted to get, or the potential buyer didn't see the value. Want more money? Be sure the client gets more value and knows it. That's all there is to it.

Kurtstuff knows the deal. He's definitely one of the good guys in my experience.

Well said and I agree with some of it but...it is getting harder everyday and I could go on and on but why?? no point to.....useless....alot of people just don't get it but...thats cool....NEXT!!!!! :P

I bet a lot more people get it than you give them credit for.

I'm sorry to disagree with you Kurt here. This story is getting really old. It is important to support the local mom and pops but only to a certain degree. I would definitely buy from Rocketeria or BCR before buying from Guitar Centre.

I am not willing to pay a premium (full retail) so that the local mom and pop can stay in business. Most business that I do is with companies that are fair and service is #1. At the end of the day, I want to know that I paid a fair price and that the seller also received a fair price. It has to be a win-win situation.

So the guy making the original post could be:

- a dealer in disguise

- an agent for the dealer

- a guy just spreading the word

Why is he considered a spammer, or troll?

Somebody enlighten me.

Thanks.

Right... so first post. Still don't get it. Is it in the bylaws that the first post can not be a "for sale" post?

Only if you're posting on behalf of Fred's Music. Agreed. That shop sux. I first went in there close to 10 years ago when I was in Reading on business. Went in again about three years ago. Both times I was in a suit and tie, having just come from the courthouse there. The first time there, I was seriously interested in a guitar that they had and was ready to buy it on the spot if the price was fair. No tag on it, so I asked. The price I was given was about double what the going rate was so I walked. I was a bit surprised and when I got back to the office, I looked them up on the internet and the price on that same guitar was about three hundred bucks less. I assumed b/c I had a suit and tie on, that they figured me for a mark. I decided never to darken their door again, but years later, a local musician/sales guy I knew got hired there and I stopped in to see him. Their store stock had gone from some decent stuff to absolute piss. It appeared to me that they weren't doing so well. I doubt they'll even be there the next time I breeze through that place.

It's just bad form for your opening salvo on the board to be a for sale post replete with a bullshit marketing line like "well below retail price."

I could do without the "well below retail price." BS, but otherwise I don't have a problem with it (even though I think that means that I am reversing my original stance on this issue).

Yea, it's his 1st post and he is probably affiliated with Guitar Hangar, but a For Sale post where a guy is selling Hamers is not a bad thing.

At least he's not selling Deans
