hrtatak Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 I want a Standard in a big way; but I am a lefty. I let a couple get away from me on EBAY and having been kicking myself ever since. Are there very many of them out there ??I know that Hamer will make me a new one and I may go that route this summer if I can't find a used one. Does Hamer have a "pick on the lefties" charge and if so; is it a % or is it a set dollar amount ? Thanks for any info and if you have a lefty Standard; let me know if you want to get rid of it.Great site by the way.
Guest Mike Lee Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 I've let a couple lefty Standards get away also.Current lefty upcharge is about $300 retail, which is better than it was a couple years ago ($500+ IIRC). Now the hard part is deciding between a Standard Custom, and a Korina '58-style...
Mike_C Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 If you order a new one and go for the Standard Custom do your best to get in a situation where you can pick your top. I've had the pleasure of doing it twice and nothing is cooler than holding a billet of flame maple knowing that in a few months you'll have a great guitar. The Hamer Open house in the fall is a great time to pick a top. Good luck Standards are great guitars.
hrtatak Posted April 5, 2005 Author Posted April 5, 2005 Hey Mike. Thanks for the info. I am leaning towards getting a Standard Custom and it would be great to get to pick out the wood for the top. I live in central IL; too bad they moved from the Chicago area. It would have been easy to do back then. I will keep the Open House trip in mind; getting to pick the top would be a very good excuse to make a trip out there.
Jason01 Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Give southpaw guitars a try, I know they have at least one lefty standard in stock.
BCR Greg Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 If you are going to get a new one, get it the way YOU want it. Hamer's custom order guitars are the so impossibly good that you cannot lose.
BTMN Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 http://www.southpawguitars.com I'm right handed player but I recently got this Dean Korean made Z below, just to try to play lefty as a challenge. Good luck with your search Hamer Standards are GREAT!! I got 375 in the Hamer jar for my custom order Standard. I hope to pick the top in October.
sirDaniel Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Mike...don't take this personally...A standard is not "you".
Guest Mike Lee Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 SirDan,I guess that's why I've never actually bought a Standard. But a Korina V, now that would be fitting for a lefty blues-based guitarist...
tomteriffic Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Big Steve. I don't think I've ever seen a crowned and bound Mahogany Standard as a righty, much less a lefty. SCHA-WEEEEEET!(Tom signs off and goes back to lefty guitar parctice).
Jack C Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 (Tom signs off and goes back to lefty guitar parctice). Parctice? You also typing lefty now, Tom?
tomteriffic Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 (Tom signs off and goes back to lefty guitar parctice). Parctice? You also typing lefty now, Tom? Always have, Jack! I just didn't hide it so pretty good that time
Jason01 Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Gimmee a little time Mike and maybe we can order a pair of twin korina vectors. Thats the one I've been lusting after for a while now.
MCChris Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 SirDan,I guess that's why I've never actually bought a Standard. But a Korina V, now that would be fitting for a lefty blues-based guitarist... Definitely. A shorter, whiter Albert King you'd be ...
HAMERMAN Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Gimmee a little time Mike and maybe we can order a pair of twin korina vectors. Thats the one I've been lusting after for a while now.If I had a chance in hell of getting the money together I would say make it three!I have a righty Vector KK that I bought with the thought of converting into a lefty in mind. I have since decided that it would be destroying too cool a guitar but even though this one is right handed and Kahlered it makes it obvious that a mahogony vee would kick serious ass.
