BadgerDave Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 This is an '04 (purchased new in December) Les Paul Standard Limited Edition. It is slightly unusual in that it's from the limited run done for Guitar Center in a "Black Cherry" finish. This version has cream, rather than white, binding and trim. Much more attractive, IMO. Stamped 147/275 (posting at work, not sure about the specific number) on the back of the headstock. Like the other LE versions, it has Burstbucker Pros, a bound headstock with a crown inlay and an ebony fretboard. Quality, fit and finish are A+ with none of the issues that crop up all to often on production LPs. Weight is 9.1 lbs. I got rid of an Historic Reissue '56 in favor of this guitar. It's that good. Condition is actually better than new since this one never saw the GC sales floor. I bought it the day it arrived at the store and it was unpacked in front of me. It has resided in Madison Square Basement since that day and I have taken very good care of it. No nicks, dings, dents, scratches, etc. Why the sale? I just bought Jaye Isham's. Jaye's is the same model and color with upgraded pickups and, the deal clincher, a 50's neck profile. Mine has the slim 60's profile. $1,700 inc. shipping (CONUS), PayPal OK if you add 3% for the fees, not really interested in trades, but you never know. How'd I do, MC Chris and DavidE? Edited to add: I removed the pickup selector ring and, IIRC, replaced the original gold bell knobs with an amber set. All of the original pieces will be reinstalled. No drilling, filing, breaking or other butchery was involved.
DavidE Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Damn, that thing is stunning. Good description. I don't know jack about the pricing points for those types of LPs, so don't ask me. ;-)
cmatthes Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 I picked up a Blue one from Master Kilroy recently - it saw some gig action over the weekend too. Mine is an '03, coincidentally, I think mine is also #147/275!Mine also has the slimmer "60" profile.
Kilroy is all about... Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 THANKS...CM..your's is #47... I'm so relieve!!
cmatthes Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 ...47, 147...whatever it takes!I'm just pissed my wah wah f'ked up on me.
Kilroy is all about... Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 i'm glad that you're glad.sorry about the wah, wah...it that a pedal effect?i'm so clueless at times. when and whatever does one use the 'wah'wah' and what brand has the vintage 'vibe' or 'mojo'?
cmatthes Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 I don't know what "Mojo" or "Vibe" mean - those seem to be understood only by those guys who can afford them over on other forums. I think it means "that thing you can't describe, but all the groovy vintage dealers who see you coming with your wallet and checkbook tell you it's there and you don't want to look like a doofus for not "getting" it when you slap down 5 figures on a vintage (or handcrafted reissue!) guitar that is gonna KILL hanging in your hermetically-sealed, humidity and temperature controlled basement along with that 5 figure hand-wired, PTP, boutique amp with limited edition tubes hand made by craftsmen who made the originals 50 years ago using NOS components from the original suppliers on the old equipment, ESPECIALLY if you can plug it all in with an $8k cable with ends plated in gold melted down from uncirculated 1851 Gold $20 coins". That's the kind of thing "mojo" means, at least that's how you have to describe it to the all other guys on your Internet Forum of choice, because your wife sure as hell doesn't want to hear you prattle on about it. I think it's also known as "the Emperor's New Clothes" or something like that. The exception is if you're an ancient native of a particular part of Chicago or the Mississippi Delta who has played holes through the cigar box body and fence slat neck of a homemade guitar you've been playing exclusively for 70 years with money earned from picking cotton in the heavy August heat somewhere in Georgia. Then you just KNOW what mojo is.Oh - to answer your question RK, I just use a standard issue JD Crybaby my wife bought me for Xmas 15 years ago when we were dating. It crackles and pops like a bowl of Rice Krispies and has no Mojo whatsoever, but I pulled it out for this Scissor Sisters song we cover.
serial Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 The LP sounded pretty cool to me-wah or not. Not familiar enough with the tune to have been missing it.
black magic Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 Oh man, if that had the 50`s neck profile, I would be beside myself to get that!! Sweet!! Jack.

That is one hell of a run on sentence! Bitchin!

Hey people, I would like to say that's a great looking Les Paul. If I had not bought my '96 Les Paul Custom, I would check out that guitar. Nice finish and it's a limited run. That remark that Cmatthes said is the total boutique guitar shop mentality when you walk in. Chris totally nailed it on the head when he said that. I think it's hilarious and there are quite a number of botique guitar shops like that here in California. All the guitars and amps are all really good playing instruments, but everything is very expensive though and the owners or people who frequent these places are a bunch of cork sniffers. As much as I like to check out gear, I avoid those places like the plague. I'm not interested in talking to a music store owner who's only interested in what I have in my wallet before he talks to me. If you don't feel welcomed or appreciative of your concerns as a customer, I'd rather go someplace else. I've been to shops like that and I usually don't come back afterwards. Ok, guys, rock on!!
