alpep Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Yes the second part of the koa guitars are starting to arrive. these are the 14 fret to the body sisters of the 12 fret gutiars that were originally custom ordered by Lost Art vintage. These guitars are numbered 1/1 - 1/12 and the labels are signed by Darren Wallace. If you are not a 12 fret guy these are the guitars for you. they have the same specs as the 12 fret except that these come with the 5 piece neck. if interested e me alpep@lostartvintage dot com there are a couple of the 12 fret guitars also still available
silentman Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Slot head... interesting. Looks cool though.
jisham Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Pretty sweet looking!+1...way cool, and I'm not even really into acoustics. Me likey.
bbobb24 Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I just love Koa....if I didn't have 3 guitars on order I'd grab one
MCChris Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Hats off to ya, Al. Concept, execution, marketing ... all nicely done.
cmatthes Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Koa is a cool choice. Slotheads are pretty nifty too - I've got an Ovation slothead headstock as a pen holder here on my desk. Sadly, that's as close as I'll get anytime soon!

Guest pirateflynn Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I've always loved those headstocks! Good luck with that run.

stonge Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I own #3 of the run of 12-fret koa slotheads; best-sounding Ovation I've ever owned. The 12 fret neck puts the bridge in the sweet spot of the koa top, and it sounds great for finger picking and even better with a pick. I played the prototype a couple of years ago and the 12 fret model just haunted me. Just like an old Standard, that koa top just 'pops' some insane flame at the right angles - these have the new bowl design and really sound nice. I haven't played the 14-fret model yet - somebody buy #3 quick so Mrs Stonge doesn't kill me lol. Ovation is really doing some great custom models lately.
Rockola Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 just....wow. Once again i'm fricken smitten. S.

Did you see/play the one that Fred bought? I can't remember which number it was, but it had a big, wide curl in the koa. I thought it was absolutely stunning and sounded fantastic, and I'm not a fan of koa.

That and playing 'Stupid Shred Tricks' with EvanD ). ProfessorBB and Fred each chose one and I took the one that nobody wanted. Don't know how this one made it to Sunday unclaimed, but I'm thankful for that. As good or better than I remembered the prototype being. A couple months later, the honeymoon ain't over yet lol...
alpep Posted November 17, 2007 Author Posted November 17, 2007 thanks these guitars are very special. They are based on a prototype for the 06 collector's the prototype was rejected but many of the Ovation guys and myself LOVED this guitar. So after bugging and begging and more of the same, it was agreed that the guitars would be made. The 12 fret ones KILL because the bridge is on the sweet spot of the top, it gives the top a ton of space to vibrate. the 14 fret version is not as spunky but does it pretty much the same. you sacrifice some vol for 2 extra frets the slotted headstock gives a greater break angle over the nut and applies more downward pressure to the nut , increasing tension and helping the top to vibrate even more. the bowl is the new contour bowl, great sounding and no more whinning about the guitars sliding off your knee (if you have good technique this would not be an issue anyway)the vip preamp is the current top of the line. it includes 5 models and the ability to blend these with the pickup sound. it is like you are putting the sound of your guitar "prcocessed " through a akg 414, sm 57, neumann u 47 etc etc etc. so you have the option of the straight ovation pickup which is an industry standard btw, or the pickup blended with a "model" just more options. 5 piece neck on the 14 fret guitars because I like them and it is the best of what is offered. the 12 fret versions have 1 piece necks. (these were to duplicate the prototype everyone loved)Darren Wallace was the Ovation R & D guy behind this guitar, so I asked him to sign the labels, after all these are his babies (with a few minor suggestions from me)Got a pile of these available and don't expect them to last. interested players know how to get in touch with me,This is my 3rd exclusive run of ovation/Adamas guitars The fan club guitar package was just SICK.btw if any hfc members want one of the koas I will throw in some stuff into the package to add to the dealthanks again al
elduave Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Seriously Al, those things look cool as fuck. That wood, that top, that SOUNDHOLE! Damn.

serial Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I hate Koa, but those look great! That's two Koa instruments this year that have me re-evaluating my likes/dislikes.
