cornjulio Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Okay guys - what´s next?Someone runs over a tree and offers it as a vintage hamer standard project??? http://cgi.ebay.com/HAMER-USA-SUNBURST_W0Q...1QQcmdZViewItem
sw686blue Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Guy lives in the same city as I do. Man, is it f*cked up though.
cornjulio Posted February 9, 2008 Author Posted February 9, 2008 Maybe you could show up and put him in place??? I mean that´s a wreck but I´m sure someone can pull it off but then again...NO!
kurtsstuff Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 With a little love it would probably a great playerSeems guitars in that state do alotta times??
Hamerica Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 That appears BCR Greg worthy. It appears to have the serial numbers and the neck is broken. I say its fixable, but then again I wouldn't put it past someone to make a fake hamer now days and leave the bark on.Hamerica
kizanski Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 That's one of those things that if you get it cheap enough, it just might be worth it (but at $22.50, it's already pushing it).I do like the Big Chief Pontiac appliqué, though.
mirrorimij Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Hmmm.....I have to check my parts stash but I might be able to revive that one.
Punkavenger Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 sure for $900 bucks you would have a really nice $800 guitar !
petemfa51 Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Remember when original Les Pauls Jr's in this condition were laughed at??? Who in their right mind would have ever thought that one of those in that condition would still be worth thousands. I've said this here before.... These early Hamers are the best bargains in Vintage guitars on the planet. American made, great wood selection, amazing craftsmanship, excellent components. It's just a matter of time.Look at what's happened in the last year.... I bought Serials MINT 79 Sunburst last summer for $1500!!!!! $1500.....and it's an amazing guitar, just sings!! Meanwhile absolute garbage 79 Strats that weigh 10 lbs, and have 3 bolt necks are selling as "Vintage pieces" for $5000???? Now we're starting to see those early Sunbursts breaking $2500 or even higher for a B&C. All while Gibson keeps pumping out "Historics" by the boat load for $4000. I have some nice Historic LP's but come on??? NONE of them hold a candle to that 79 Sunburst. And....Gibson has made a whole lot more Historic LP's than Hamer EVER made original Sunbursts. The scary part is you can buy an ORIGINAL 1970's Sunburst FOR LESS than a run of the mill Historic????? This is what happens when markets fail to keep up with reality. GIBSON still makes Historics. HAMER doesn't make original 1970's Sunbursts anymore. It's just starting......IMHO those guitars will break $10,000 in the next 10 years. Buy 'em NOW or WISH you had...Hey, if someone grabs this thing for a few hundred dollars, my money is on that guitar being worth a whole lot more than that 5 years from now. Forget playing it, or even trying to fix it. Once the rest of the world knows what we all know that "junker" will on ebay as a Vintage restoration candidate, and people will be throwing stupid money at it.
mirrorimij Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 sure for $900 bucks you would have a really nice $800 guitar ! How would it be $900 bucks? I have everything necessary to bring that back to life. The only cost is labor (which I would do myself and I consider myself to be well qualified for the job). BP
Punkavenger Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 if you have all the parts and can do all the work yourself then thats a definite money saver. Of course to be rational you have to figure what your time is worth and how much the parts you have are worth even though you already have them. This is what I was basing my $900 figure onA. $300 (conservative estimate) paint refinish ... looks pretty rough dude, not like a primo condition guitar with just the electronics removed.B. $300 (very conservative estimate) electronics/parts, just the pickups I bought last were over $300 ... sustain block bridge over a hundred ... didn't it need tuners too? $75C. $300 neck repair and fret job ... wasn't it actually missing some frets? And that neck looks pretty funky, is there a break somewhere? My friendly neighborhood guitar shop charges $135 for just a fret refinish!$300 + $300 + $300 = $900
Jason01 Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Why do you have to restore it to perfect condition? Why not just make it a player and play the crap out of it? I love the sticker on it and I think it looks cool.
Punkavenger Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 everyone may do as they wish ... the avenger has spoken
mirrorimij Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I see what Punkavenger is saying but I guess I'm looking at it a bit differently.I don't have the historically accurate parts but I do have tuners, a sustain block bridge, pickups etc for that guitar that maybe I have $50 bucks into.I could do the fretjob/refinish myself and I am thinking of it as a hobby/project so I wasn't factoring a labor rate.Of course, with my travel schedule, it would probably take me over a year to complete. I would probably lose interest after a month.
santellavision Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 It's gondy. Ebay pulled it for some reason.
cornjulio Posted February 10, 2008 Author Posted February 10, 2008 It's gondy. Ebay pulled it for some reason.those sunbursts don´t seem to be doing well on ebay these days...
cmatthes Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I'm pretty sure that was a side deal off eBay...
