Indeed! I do appreciate you all thinking of me, though.

Gale has a similar post where I posted all of the reasons I have to pass on it.

I do wish I could take them all.

That is a totally cool top. Is that Kahler such a tone sucker that you couldn't salvage it by blocking it?

Kahlers are NOT tone suckers and no, you can't block a flat-mount Kahler like those. Floyds have more of a negative impact on sound and playability IMHO than a well-installed Kahler. Unfortunately, most people didn't do Kahler installs right and screwed tons of guitars up. Hamer did them extremely well when they were original from the factory, like this one. I have two factory-original Kahlered Hamers that are pretty much perfect and they sound great.

I offered the guy $560 a couple of weeks ago. He countered with $750. Might go for less now if anyone is interested (someone please buy this before I lose control...).

I did not know that. Thanks for the info. :P

True, but I was able to block mine with a little engineering creativity. I'd have to pull it off the guitar to show you, but somehow I mounted an aluminum plate into where the springs attach, then ran a screw through that plate up into the hole where the arm screws in. Solid as a rock.

Frankly, I'm probably going to unblock it as I hear the heavy spring set improves the stability quite a bit. That was my biggest gripe before - couldn't bend notes without pulling others flat.

I have heavy springs in all of mine. They're awesome with those in there. Don't want to whammy? Just take out the arm and crank the tension a little. You get a very stable bridge with fine tuners at your fingertips (not that you'd need them).

I've never owned a Kahler'd guitar, but the only time I set up a guitar for one of those Lynch-school shredder types, buzz-free and perfectly intonated and then was asked to raise the action was on a Kahler'd guitar. I was very impressed with the adjustability and stability of the Kahler. I was playing a Floyd guitar at the time ~'89 and it really showed me the compromises of the Floyd system.

Well, I'm sorry, but for me Kahlers are tone suckers. They are so bulky that they do affect your sound, you want it or not.

Also, I still have to play a Kahler-ed guitar with a satisfying sound to my ears -- but of course, I'm only talking about my own tastes.

But well, that's how I've developed the following belief: If a Kahler-ed guitar does sound great, it would sound even greater if it hadn't any Kahler on it! :P

I simply don't like how the Kahler feels. I've had guitars with both Kahlers and Floyds, and i prefer the Floyd.

As far as tone... Feh... It's all in yer fingers... :P
