Abaco Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 I don't know what made me think of this... But, have any guitarists here ever gotten on their knees while playing a gig? You know, the solos really screaming and you gotta hit that rock pose. The thought of it just kinda makes me laugh. So..I'm in a goofy mood today.
Hamer95USA Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 Hey abaco, I do that at my gigs if I'm feeling very inspired and intense about the music I'm playing onstage. I think there is nothing wrong with that as long as you're playing good notes and have good tone onstage. Killer guitar playing and stage presence makes for a great show. I don't always do it all the time though. Only if I feel inspired by the audience. Guitar George

Caddie Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 If I did that I don't know what would be louder.....- people laughing, pointing and saying "wtf is that a-hole doing?"or- the cracking & popping sounds that would come out of my knees & anklesI just try to remain standing at gigs.Noonan
SirDouglas Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 I do since i got bad knees from playin hockey.... just standing there then boom down i go hehe... damnedest thing too cause i dont know when its comin sometimes hehe... Sir Douglas Randy
cmatthes Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 I've always loved that - I remember seeing Ace F. do that back in the 70s and wondered how in the hell he ever got back up with those big ol' platform boots! One of the scenes from Spinal Tap that had me laughing out loud back in '84 was the scene when Nigel goes down on his knees during the second solo of "Hellhole" and can't get back up. The pandemonium with the roadies trying to right him as he continues to flail away and solo gets me every time. Of course, he gets put upright at just the right second so he comes in with a triumphant toothy smile as he hits the solo-ending powerchord.Classic.
David B Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 Sure, I do sometimes. I also jump around like an idiot. It's all fun. People laugh & smile but they love when a band tries really hard.

MCChris Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 Once we had a gig at the Metro and after sound check I went next door to Jimmy & Tai's Wrigleyville Tap to watch a Red Wings playoff game against the hated Avalanche. I got too wrapped up in the action (the Wings lost) and had WAY too many gin and tonics. Thirty seconds into our first song I fell backwards onto the stage and lay there like a waterbug. I remember looking up at the stage lights and thinking how I was never going to be able to finish the gig. Then miraculously I composed myself, got back up and completed the set. No doubt it was shitty. To make matters worse, the band after us was from Colorado and the bass player was wearing an Avalanche jersey. I attacked him during set change.
Jones Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 The fall to the knees thing only works if you are on a stage above the crowd. If not, then the people in the back might think you fell in a hole.
Steve Haynie Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 Better yet, how many guys bought new spandex, got on their knees on a rough stage, and got runs in their new spandex? How about dirty knees in general? I've played some places where the stage was not really clean enough to want to grab a dropped pick, and my cables were nasty afterward.
bobsessed Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 My last band was of the collective mindset that they each were, I guess, too old to attempt anything such as that. Well, me too, actually....my knees just won't take it, and anyway, I wouldn't do something like that simply for visual effect. But hey, you'd better do something! The guys in my band were so incredibly boring! You're gonna look pretty silly dancing around like a crazy man,(unless you're Steven Tyler), But walk a little, smile, get a handclap started, interact with your audience in some way...do BY GOD SOMETHING ! -Bob-
