elduave Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I can tell I'll be digging this show. I'll bet Mark Burnett (show creator, from Australia, came up with Survivor) is pals with the band from way back.
frank_c Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 as a huge INXS fan since high school, i find it hard to be objective. i'll have to watch a few more shows before i can make any predictions.
jerseydrew Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I enjoyed the show. Most of the performers were excellent. I have to laugh because INXS should be on that show "Hit Me Baby One More Time". They were one of my favorites 20 YEARS AGO. The announcers made them sound like they were some kind of great band. Granted they were pretty good, but that was 20 years ago. I guess it's better to be a has-been than a never-were.
Jack C Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I watched because a coworker's nephew is one of the contestants (Will - the guy who sang Heros). Looks like it will be a fun show. The drummer for the house band was badass.

Scooter Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Saw the show.Loved it.I'm hooked already! It's American Idol for us 30+ year olds.

frank_c Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 no, it's American Idol without karaoke versions of sappy songs.
tobereeno Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 The Swing was a killer album, and at my wedding, I sang "Don't Change" with the house band for my wife. Sappy, but apropos.
belikerick Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 +1 for "The Swing" - great album. I watched tonight and was entertained, but was not too impressed with about half the contestants, but am hoping to see them step up a little more in the coming shows. I'm wondering about something though... I see on their website that the guys from INXS have been working with some female singers and I guess because of the whole American Idol vibe, they probably have to have women contestants to help pull in as many viewers as possible but I can't see a woman fronting the band. Michael Hutchins' vibe and tonal range made the band what it was and I can't see a woman pulling it off (although after tonight I'm not sure any of the guys has what it takes either, we'll see). Am I totally out of line? I'll keep watching... for now.
cmatthes Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I thought some of the contestants were okay, but a couple shouldn't have been there at all. Still a HELL of a lot more engaging for me than "Hit me one more time" or whatever that trainwreck was/is called...I just can't see any of the women doing a convincing "Suicide Blonde"...
Disturber Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Argh, I wish this show was on here overseas.Although I can't say I think the idea of turningthis once great band into a TV circus sounds likea good idea. (Michael is probably rolling around in his grave).INXS had great songs. Very nice guitarwork,I love what these two guys would sling out on their six strings, (can't remember their names). They where a big influence on me riff wise backin the day. INXS taught me it was more to guitarplayingthan just heavy metal riffs and power chords.
davidd Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Overall, I really liked the show. It was painful to watch 2 or 3 of the contestants. I think they need to make more than one cut per show or it will drag on too long. A lot of them are really excellent singers but they just don't seem right with INXS. I am interested in how the "Cult of Personality" singer from LA will do with a different song.
marcnorth Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 There were only a couple of the singers that were any good, the rest sucked. It will be hard to watch for 3 months. I will more than likely get flamed to hell for this but I dont think they will hire a chick singer, they are there to draw veiwers. A chick lead singer will ruin a band faster than anything.
Craig Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 The first girl was the best, only about 5 out of the 15 had even marginal talent, personally, I can't see a chick fronting INXS, it doesn't work for me. I'm a fan of the band, I think its a great comeback idea, but these contestants suck. Plus, the choices of songs from most of these people sucked, but I will give props to the redhead who picked sweet dreams. That JD guy looked like a sex offender. Good band that needs a real singer, not some wannabe. I missed the last 10 minutes, who got the boot?
ctrixie Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Watched it too. I also think that it should be a guy fronting THIS band, not sure which they will pick. At the end, I was impressed that when the first cut was made, the parting comment was simply "you're not right for us" or something like that, rather than some snide dismissing remark.Edited to add - yeah, the one cut was that Dana chick who did a cringe-worthy version of Knockin on Heavin's Door.
Jack C Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Edited to add - yeah, the one cut was that Dana chick who did a cringe-worthy version of Knockin on Heavin's Door. Yeah, her singing was pretty scary, but she looked a bit like Kyra Sedgwick - who I've had the hots for in a big way ever since the movie Singles came out.

jujisque Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Edited to add - yeah, the one cut was that Dana chick who did a cringe-worthy version of Knockin on Heavin's Door. That was the only performance that I saw of it. I turned it off after that. I guess that it's encouraging to hear that some of them were actually good . . . .
JohnnyThunders Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Yet to watch but it's a TIVO show, fast foward thru the bad, watch the good usually done in under 20 minutes. Forget the singers how about some old band missing their guitarist and then they search for a guitarist or bassist or drummer...... or multiples.....mmmmmm
jujisque Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Forget the singers how about some old band missing their guitarist and then they search for a guitarist or bassist or drummer...... or multiples.....mmmmmm I thought the same thing. That would be an awesome show. They could call it the 'chop search' or something like that (though they would come up with a better name)
Craig Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 agreed, I think they all settled in a little. That young kid Jordie is the best, but I don't see a chick fronting them. I think Ty or Marty would suit them best, with Ty being more of a talent. I wouldn't pick any of them for INXS given the choice.
