here's my newest paul... Ain't she purrrty?? :)

Hey kurtsstuff,

You finally got your Les Paul. Nice!!! I like the striped flamed maple. What year is your Standard? When did you get it? Did Carlos hook you up with that? Put that through your Marshall half stack now. Mmmmm... Les Paul & Marshall half stack.

I got this one for $200 bucks and it ROCKS! Fatdog Black Beauty baby!!! I'm thinking about getting some WCR pickups for it. I've bought and sold alot of expensive guitars trying to get better sound and feel but it's still here and they are not.

I have an R7 with SD Custom and Jazz in it. I loath the Burstbucker pickups for the most part. I also have a 61' RI SG, that has gobs of tone but I had to have a new nut put on it because it came too low. The 57 Classics stock are perfect for the guitar. Its a keeper. The only problem is I can pull the neck out of tune easily its got such a weak neck joint. I also have an ES-137...god almighty this thing has tone!!! Its pretty too!

If you get an LP you cant go wrong with the Historic RIs, overall they are better finished and sound better than the Standards... I have had and gotten rid of 3 of the Standards.

As for QC, I cant believe Gibson puts out some of the crap Ive seen. Lets put it this way, I feel 100% confident in buying a Hamer USA sight un-seen. Its the total opposite for the Gibsons...they are snowflakes but I do love some of them

I've owned tons of Les Pauls in the last 35 years and kept two... and seldom play them. The neck joint and fret access kills me.

Hey, I've made a promise to try every guitar I can get my hands on.

Go for it, you'll never know unless you try it.

The best gear is to keep what you've got and be happy with it. Maybe if everyone ignores Gibson the price will go down. How many Les Paul's does Angus own??? Or his brother? My point is not to sell-out to media popularity.

In 1964, when John Lennon took stage with a Rickenbacker, people didn't know what to think. Why wasn't he playing a Les Paul or Fender? George and Paul weren't playing Gibsons either. Yet that tour revolutionized music. Apparently a marquee LP back then was just as expensive as a marquee LP today.

I like Hamer because they are an underdog. Underdog's are what rock music is about, not status quo.

A couple of weeks ago I've had the chance to play a 57 RI goldtop. The guitar played like hell but sounded like a million bucks. I was not impressed with the quality of the instrument and the setup was a bit off for my taste (played it for over an hour at a jam). OTOH using a Fender Vibrolux the tone was classic rock on steroids.

I have played many Les Pauls and have owned a few in the 80's when they could be bought cheap but have never found a "Magic one" for me. Check out this article. I concure with its thoughts. Don't buy a Les Paul unless you find a "magic one" and never buy one without playing it before you buy. Not all Les Pauls are created equal. I still search but I don't know if I will ever buy another one. This is very contrary to every Hamer I have picked up. For some unkown reason virtually every Hamer I pick up I bond with instantly. Good luck with your search.

that MrX thing is filled w/ wrong info, including the picture of him playing his 55 or whatever year he claimed, I agree that picking a Paul is best done in person , but there is serious BS in that piece as well
