Taylor Player Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I was going to go for this, and then I noticed he was talking dollars and not Uruguayan New Pesos, so I'm out. http://westernmass.craigslist.org/msg/1363122485.html

It would have to do better as an investment than my mutual funds (and of course I'd have to 'maintain' it from time to time to ensure it held its viability)!
sonic1974 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I thought that the '50s Les Pauls that aren't Sunbursts went for more in the range of $15-20 thousand? Not that I'd be able to afford that either!
santellavision Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I bought a near-mint '55 Custom in '95 for $5,500. Should have held on to that one!
cmatthes Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 That is NOT a $100k Les Paul. Those (in flawless condition) on a good day with a strong tailwind might bring @ $30k, but the market isn't what it was a few years ago either. That one has the expected wear and aging as expected, but he'll never get $100k for that one...at least not in his lifetime.
currypowder Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 But, he had it unofficially appraised at $112,000! Probably him and a bunch of buddies having a few beers and fantasizing about its value.
cmatthes Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Maybe somebody pulled up a dealer selling a '59-'60 Custom with 3 PAFs or something and figured that since this one was older...An "unofficial" appraisal is worth the cocktail napkin it is scrawled on, and that's about it.

What are those things worth now?He plays it into a 1966 Marshall Bluesbreaker re-biased for NOS KT-66s.

My friend got his for $9K about 10 years ago when sunburst Stds were going for around $40K. And get this: the seller sent him 12 gold-pated PAFs and let him pick the three he liked best in the guitar, with a gentleman's agreement that he would send the other 9 back.
murkat Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I bought a near-mint '55 Custom in '95 for $5,500. Should have held on to that one! I bought a very relic'd hard played '55 custom in '89 for $1,100. Should have held on to that one too. (Leny Kravits's guitar player has it)
santellavision Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Mine went to Brian Brock (As in the famous Brock Burst) he lives here in Denver. I traded him my NM '55 for his NM flamey '59 345. At that time, it was a nice deal!
cornjulio Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I'm simply impressed that these guitars are still around. Amazing...and if they truly are in original condition it's just unbelievable. How many people would have wanted to change set ups, change PU's, maybe even change the color of their guitar back in the day.
