earachemyeye Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 It comes with a vid to teach you the proper facial expressions. The man is a blues LEGEND (barf). Joe
Citrus Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Facial expressions aside - the boy can PLAY - got to give him props for that
hamersandstrats Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 I was just watching the Crossroads DVD the other day and it looked like Mayer's strat was a SRV Signature model with a changed pickguard. I know I saw some kind of signature on the headstock. Kind of funny to make a signature guitar based on a...signature guitar.
kurtsstuff Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 WHOOPIDDYDOO!!! Another Strat that sucks as hard as every other strat!! hehe
mc2 Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Wow! Yet ANOTHER place for John Mayer to pop up where he doesn't belong. Hope it does better than his 1 episode TV show Does it bother anyone else when Mayer is included in VH-1 interviews and Grammy/Awards presentations where all the other celebs are twice his age? He always seems the orange in the crate of apples. Does his father own the label he's on? What's the deal? The amount of promo he's given makes me suspicious.
serial Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 If he's on a Sony label, it would all make sense. Saw a news article online yesterday that NY Atty Gen Elliot Spitzer is looking into Sony for payola stuff and they pointed to JLo and Good Charlotte among some of the artists that they paid to get spins for by showering djs and programmers with Sony product and vacations.
BCR Greg Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 WHAT?????Jlo isn't THAT GOOD A SINGER that she gets played on her merits?
BadgerDave Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Good Lord. The madness continues.Honestly, I haven't heard Mayer play anything that at least half a dozen of the players on this board could do better. Not me, but certainly HHBill, MC Chris, Greggles, Paults, the George/Jeff guy from the last HFC, and others.I see that Musician's friend is offering an autographed pickguard with the purchase of a new JM Strat. My heart is all afflutter! I wonder how many times John had to practice his autograph to achieve just the right balance of angst and sensitivty.
MCChris Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 I wonder how many times John had to practice his autograph to achieve just the right balance of angst and sensitivty. LOL! Snap!If only his "dying gasp" vocal delivery was exactly that.
SirDouglas Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 GAH!!!!!!!! i haveto agree with kurt... them cookie cutter strats have sucked since early 70s.... ya seen 1 ya seen em all... bleh... P.O.S. imho... i would take time to even piss on it let alone set it on fire.... but as long as your happy thts what counts hehe enjoy yer new gee tar twang twang Sir Douglas Randy
killertone Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 I don't know if you've seen this yet but - HOLY SH*T!! - it's YOU!!No Others NeededI want your Junior!! Is that you Jake????
shankyboy Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Did anyone here catch the episode of Austin City Limits with John Mayer? If you did, then you know that John can, in fact, play the Blues. The only reason he plays the sugary pop stuff is because he decided that he wanted to make a living playing music and actually get PAID. I may not be a fan of his chosen style of music, but I cannot deny his skills as a player.
earachemyeye Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Perhaps John CAN play the blues. It just seems that it's difficult for people to take him seriously within the context of the music that he has chosen to market himself with. The leap from fluffy, sugary, smoochy cutsie pie lyrics to "I got the blues y'all "is too far for alot of people. Reminds me of "Kid" Johnny Lang when he was 12 (or so)years old singing the old blues standards like he'd been to hell and back in love with a woman.Nice singin there kid, but.... Oh well, maybe it's only music and nothing more.Joe

I wonder how many times John had to practice his autograph to achieve just the right balance of angst and sensitivty. Speaking of artist signatures...one of the oddball things I have in my pile of artifacts is an Izzy Stradlin guitar pick from his JuJu Hounds gig that D'Andrea picks gave me (I used to design their ads.) Apparently, they had to make 10,000 signed pics for Izzy overnight and rush-ship them to Japan in the middle of a tour....but just as they were about to ship them, the tour manager called to say that they HAD to redo them because Izzy was so fked up that he'd MISSPELLED his own name when he'd signed it!! I've got one of the misspelled ones that they had to destroy...a great example of RnR excess
bobsessed Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 J. Mayer really .....I just can't get into his music. But yeah, that ACLimits thing on TV....the blues he did on his cookie-cutter was excellent! But why, oh why does everybody get a signature-series Strat ? ? ? I just would not give a dime for a guitar with somebody elses name on it. I don't much care for the Steve Stevens guitars, even though they're Hamers....I really hope Hamer won't do that again.
