MCChris Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 David E, what shite are you talking about? I'll give you Circle Of Life/any Lion King stuff but what else... "Leather Jackets" fucking sucked.
elduave Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 David E, what shite are you talking about? I'll give you Circle Of Life/any Lion King stuff but what else... "Leather Jackets" fucking sucked. Who the fuck asked you? Yes, Leather Jackets sucked as well, but I don't think any of that ever got any radio play.
bobbymack Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 "Philadelphia Freedom" sucked the root. Hard.
tralfax19645 Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Hi, I have an S 500 if that counts. The bridge pickup is a bit weak, that is the only niggle on this guitar. It is not enough of an issue for me to swap it out. Both G&ls that I have just feel good(not good,GREAT), the guitar resonates in yout hands like you would expect a good acoustic to do. I think it may be that they dont GOOP the clearcoat on the necks like a lot of the US F*****s do. Not counting the pickups its the best strat style plank of wood I have yet to play. Rob
Turdus Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Depending on the year, here is something to make a note of. Circa 2003, I bought a 2001 NOS Legacy. Sounded great until I changed the strings to 10's. Then, all the chimey resonance was gone. Came to find out that the nut was slotted for 9's up until mid 2002, IIRC. I called G&L and the guy told me to use some 400 grit paper to widen the slots a bit. Upon doing that the guitar regained the wonderful ring.
m chops Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I love my ASAT Classic. It's a light, light piece of ash (  had to say it) and just sings. I've replaced the white pickguard with a cream. Carmie, That one has me drooling!
SteveE9C6 Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I'm a big G&L fan. I've owned multiple Legacies, one ASAT, and one of my favorite guitars ever... my Blueburst Comanche. I have owned Fenders since the early sixties. I like both. My current favorite non-Hamer is my new Eric Johnson Strat. This is simply the finest Strat I've ever owned or played.

cmatthes Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 The finest Tele-type instrument I have EVER played was an indigo-trans, double bound ASAT Classic with an Ebony board. I played it on a lunch break with Saxon/Turdus and/or Wrecks in a shop near where we used to work.It was gone when I went back the next week, but it left a helluv an impression.
m chops Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Carmie and I have very similar taste: Jeeeez. Now put a Phat Cat where that hum is, and I think you have created my dream guitar!
gwayne Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Jeeeez. Now put a Phat Cat where that hum is, and I think you have created my dream guitar! That sounds like a great idea. The ASAT is a semi-hollow and is without a doubt the most versatile guitar I own. I love my Hamers, but this is a true desert island axe. From Tele-twang to woman tone, it's all there. The middle position has the nicest clean one I've ever heard and I bet the Phat Cat would take it to another level. It was insanely cheap for a custom ordered guitar and it took less than two months to deliver.
DavidE Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I almost packed my f hole ASAT classic to take with me to my out of town gigs this weekend. Then I remembered the power at the club sucks and single coils would be hell. Dang...
JohnnyB Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 You guys have me jonesing to get another ash/maple Legacy Special. I guess I could put dual-blade pickups on the Legacy I already have ...Phat Cat in the neck position of a semihollow ASAT -- brilliant idea!
GuitarDoyle Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 G&L makes a sweet guitar. I love the 12" fretboard radius but that happens to be my favorite. I think the neck gives it more of a Les Paul feel.
mudshark Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I bought an ASAT Special, the one with the P-90ish pups from Hamerfan 1, and it's a heckuva guitar; he even threw in some Rio Grande Tallboys. Has a nice V neck.
thecajunboy Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Every time I pick up my Legacy I pee on myself.

hardheartedbill Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 man, you guys are killin me! It is ALL I can do not to buy a semi hollow asat classic thats in the store I teach at, argghhh!
mykel Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 here's mine ('00 legacy, '04 ASAT Super, '01 ASAT Z3-SH"). was just playing the Super last night. great guitar. love my legacy, too. might be hard to see from the picture, but it's blonde over ash (in person, you can see the grain). i've thought about changing the bridge pickup in it (seems a little weak), but it's pretty light and resonant and stays in tune suprisingly well, though I only use light trem action, typically.
