zorrow Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I might need a shredder, but I hate thin necks. What's the chunkiest neck on a Hamer shredder? TIA! Edited to add: Gosh! This is my post number 3K!
Thundernotes Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I had a Diablo with a fairly decent sized neck profile. It may have been a special order with that carve. I sold it here a few years back, but I can't remember who bought it.http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.p...9&hl=Diablo
atquinn Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I've had a Centaura and a Chap Elite with thick necks. The Cali's I've had all had thin-to-medium necks and the Diablos were thinnest of all. I don't mind thin necks though, so I got around fine on all of them.-Austin
carfish7 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I sold a SSI to LadyScary that had certified baseball-bat for neck.
bubs_42 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I've played just about every one of them and the SS takes the cake. I absolutely love the SS neck profile.
zorrow Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 I've only played Calis and Centauras, and I have found both to be on the medium/slim side. Still have to try Chaps, Diablos, SS's... and Phantoms.
Bennyboy-UK Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I've got one of Austins previous Centauras - and its got a fatter neck than either of my Calis.I really like it - good shape.Spose the handmade element means that there is always going to be some variation between examples of the same model let alone different models. The TLE Custom I had for a bit had too much of a mans neck for me - but for Bruce who bought it - he thought it was a little on the small side - mind you - he really really loves a mahoooosive neck!B
Disturber Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I've had an SS1 with a very beefy neck, and an SSII with a pretty beefy neck as well. I had a Centaura with a nice medium+ carv.
JohnnyB Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I know we're all Hamer fans here, but if you want a beefy-necked shredder, look into the G&L Invader series and the Rampage. The Floyd-equipped Invaders come with a 12" radius C-profile neck with 1-11/16" nut width. If you get a hardtail version, you can specify other neck profiles including a vintage or modern V-profile, a U-profile, and various nut widths all the way out to 1-3/4" wide C profile.
jettster Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 I have a Centaura, two Diablo's (I and II) and two Cali’s. The Centaura has the skinniest neck of all of them. The Diablo's have the most substantial necks but it’s a completely different profile than the Cali's.
e-isle rock Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 The Diablo I used to have had the chunkiest neck between a Centaura, Diablo and a Floyded Vintage S.
DarrenD Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 There is strong variation between between identical models of the same year, much less different models. Remember, these are all handmade with no CNC. I've had two '89 calis and they barely felt like a similar guitar because the neck profiles were so different.
proxmax Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 the most 1990 hamer shredders have a thicker neck to avoidheadcracks many 1989 had.my maple cali 1991 has a nice beefy neck + jumbofrets.
FrankieIII Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Most of the Hamer models with a mahogany neck and tremelo have a beefier neck profile for strength/stability to compensate for the less rigid (than maple) mahogany neck.
peedenmark7 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 most of the 3x3 headstocked blitz' Ive played have beefy necks...
