black_wizards Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Hello! I'm a new Hamer owner from France! I recently buy an used Studio Custom. i think it was listed on this site some weeks ago. Here are pics of the previous owner: By the way, I have a question. I'd like to put an Ivory nut which is standard on the Custom.... because the one on the guitar seems to be tusk or plastic... Do you think I can get it from Hamer?
specialk Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Welcome and congrats! You got a real looker there.
MCChris Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I thought it was a French thing. Something to do with being below the equator and all that.
anotherfreak Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 That's a newer custom, are you sure it's not bone? It must be from the last 5yrs, ya just never know.if it's a lubritrack nut you may want to keep it as well.I guess I'd just ask why you would want to change it? is it binding? is it off color?
veatch Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Welcome, and terrific top on that beauty!Note that the nut is likely self-lubricating, which is important given the trem. Replacing with bone or ivory may give you less stable tuning when using the trem.
Jeff R Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I favor synthetics. They lube themselves nowadays.
black_wizards Posted December 16, 2011 Author Posted December 16, 2011 Sorry for the lack of answer...It's a custom from 2007 according to the serial. It is synthetic; not bone. I didn't knew that it was self lubrificated. So it will be all right! It's just that I thought ivory was common on Custom Studio; and there is some glue that can be seen between the nut and the fingerboard. I suspected the prevous owner to remove the original nut and replace it with a synthetic one. :-)I'll post a pic in the coming days.It really sounds killer!!! The tone is gorgeous. I play on an Egnater MOD 50. Never had such a tone (and I have some other nice guitars...)
belgian Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Welcome neighbour !Give us a picture of the nut... would be helpfull.
kizanski Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Give us a picture of the nut... would be helpfull.Well, there goes the surprise of my new signature.
hardheartedbill Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Id want a synthetic nut on a guitar with a trem
lincsman Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 welcome thanks for posting your new guitar for us all to see
Kurt L Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Welcome! This is one of the best places on the entire internet... Beautiful guitar - I hope you really enjoy it! I've modded a few Hamers but in general I'd wait to really get to know it before changing anything.
black_wizards Posted December 24, 2011 Author Posted December 24, 2011 Here is a pic of the nut. You can see the glue... By the way, does Hamer use italian cellulose on every US model? I have seen the factory tour on Youtube; it is said that "the top of the line models" have hand carved top. Do you think mine, which is a custom order, has this feature? I know it doesn't affect the sound, etc... but I'm curious...
veatch Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I believe all of the US models are hand carved. The glue looks odd to me, but hard to tell just from the pic.
Punkavenger Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 That doesnt look right... I would at least bring it to a luthier to have it checked out
black_wizards Posted December 26, 2011 Author Posted December 26, 2011 Ok thanks.Belore going to see a luthier I'd like to know where can I find a lubritrack nut. Because I'm not in the US and not the original owner of the guitar...Will Hamer rescue me sending a replacement nut to my local Hamer dealer? or or will it be faster to buy it somewhere else? And Merry Christmas to everybody here!
