Crimsontider Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I would very much like to hear a song, snippet, even just you and guitar and then let us know what Hamer you are using and other info,Imagine there are many members here that have a recording on their computer somewhere that they could share. The interesting part would be knowing the type of Hamer being used. Thanks in advance. I hope this thread turns into something interesting.Greg
svl Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 This was recorded with my '82 Hamer Sunburst (everything stock except the Kahler trem) into my Fractal Audio Axe FX Ultra direct into the console. I play the leads in this one as well....http://soundcloud.com/offbroadwayusa/full-moon-turn-my-head-around

Great guitar into, drum mix is great (is that a program or a set), vocal are top notch with a touch of LA influence with Elvic costello. Excellent. Updated with a punk influence.Lead : Professional, great harmony, has a Les Paul tone. Lead at end letting it loose is great. I would not change the channel on this one.Thanks.
Crimsontider Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 The '81 Proto in action: A guitar meant to play low. Looks like a SG at fist until it comes into total view. Nice raw let it loose groove, melody wrapped around guitar lick. The harmony lead is great but the let loose later is great. I could see Neil Young letting loose on this, the perfect break in the center reminds me of Filter. This is perfect mid sized venue music for drinking to. Very impressed wit the drummer. You and he seem to have a good think going, I would stick with him. The bass hangs on. The Singer sounds very versatile, New alternative, Jim Morris, Grunge Metal, could probably due it all and has good timbre to his voice. Singing in Key is about 25% of it for me, it's the quality of the instrument. Like a Hamer vs. a Pawn shop special. You are obviously either a college or circuit band. When was this made? Keep them coming. I will comment on them all!
mathman Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Here is a video I made mixing our old band playing freewill with old super8 film strip clips I had digitized of me and my friends skateboarding and on our surfing trips. Made as an exercise to learn Final Cut Pro and borisfx. I was playing my 83 Hamer Cruise that I had probably only had for a few months at this time in 1984/85. Don't remember exact dates. I actually have a large box of cassettes that I recorded of us during our time playing between 1981 and 1986 but we never really did anything other than a few parties and open jams.Poop Freewillhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYf7-MZ267wU Belong to MeThis is a song I've worked on off and on over the last few years. This has the Cruise bass, my XT standard, and the 1984 Red Proto II I bought a few years ago.Cleaner tracks in the opening is the proto, the harder rhythm is the XT and the solo is the Proto.
anotherfreak Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Dicking around with my pod and my duotone, I keep meaning to mix it a little better, but it is what it is. I have a Tascam hard disc recorder and a couple o' cheap mics. http://www.reverbnat...ow/song_9161144

It reminded me of my skating / surfing days @ Cocoa Beach late 70's early 80's. Skipping school, fun. I couldn't tell if that was the Canaveral area or not. It sure was old Florida though. Man do I miss that. Great video and music of the days of youth gone by.

Bass Guy Dave Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Found this a week or two ago while I was digging through old video tapes. It was late '92 and I had just gotten my 81 Cruisebass that sold me on Hamers in general. (I had just started playing again after an 18 month break from carpal tunnel probs..the Cruisebass gave me hope I could actually play again. The scary mullet I had kinda neutralized that in retrospect, lol! Old open G riffs that later got meshed into a tune of the HFC 1 CD.
MCChris Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 This is perfect mid sized venue music for drinking toHa! Our style wasn't particularly fashionable at the time, but the Metro loved booking us because, in their words, the second we hit our first note, the bottoms of hundreds of beer bottles pointed to the ceiling and kept doing it throughout our set.You are obviously either a college or circuit band. When was this made?We were a circuit band based in Chicago and did van tours all over, but primarily the midwest and south. This video was shot in January 1995.

And the first time I've heard a 1st. gen. cruise bass.
cynic Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Found this a week or two ago while I was digging through old video tapes.I'll join in and say this is fantastic, but I ended up losing another hour or so enjoying your other vids.....really like your sound and style!
gorch Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Some Brian May style echo jamming with the Tally into a Rockman XP100 with a Boss DD-6 in the FX loop of the XP100. All stereo, recorded directly from line out into the notebook. No post editing. The stereo XP100 creates a wall of sound in the room, real two channel echo left and right. Also have a XPR that sounds even better. Recording is from 2010.

I ordered a Velocity bass last week expressly to play in this tuning...
bcsride Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 The '81 Proto in action: I've heard this style before - oh yeah its called ROCK! Nice.

Bass Guy Dave Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 Thanks, everyone for the kind words! The '81 Proto in action: MCChris has one of the HFC's more iconic photos that looks like it was probably from this gig. I dig the tune!
MCChris Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 MCChris has one of the HFC's more iconic photos that looks like it was probably from this gig. I dig the tune! Ha! Same venue, same guitar, different gig (no leather vest): I wore the hat in hopes of looking like Izzy Stradlin. I ended up looking like a chauffeur.
perrynoiacity Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 A Demo I used the Californian on at www.reverbnation.com/perrybennett
harry65 Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 my t-51 into the modded scxd into an avatar 2x12 with older eminence legend greenback clones............
Brooks Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Me & Stike started to learn this tune w/ our band Wizard Sleeves, but none of us could sing it. I became obsessed w/ the piano coda, which I have turned into a jazzy theme. Eventually I'll record this w/ bass & drums as an instrumental.
bcsride Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 O.K, not much of a tone showcase for the old Cruise Bass, but anyway '95 Cruise Bass, DI, Bridge PU. Turn it up and you get some tone.http://www.reverbnat...ow/song_9835632I think that link takes you to a reverbnation page. All the demos there are my '95 Cruise if you are interested enough to go through them. Most of thetime DI into a Tascam 8track cassette machine.Sorry, there are no Hamer 6 strings on those demos. The guitars are G&L's, Fenders, and Carvins.Disclaimer - any sonic unpleasantness found on The Meegans Reverbnation page is my responsibility. The guys I played with were great.
