HamStd Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 The purple one should be the one "from a special run" not the iridescent one.They did a limited run (with the additional serial number, for a Canadian dealer) in the irridescent finish, as well as the purple, possibly one more color but it doesn't come to mind. They also had in the series flamed maple body ones in aztec yellow, green and blue, again I think 25 of each. They all had the reverse headstock and I believe they all had the volume and tone knob. I could be mistaken as you could order a cali with a rev. headstock so it is best to ask the seller for the specific info.Peter
stonge Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 I used to own one of each of those two limited runs, one in the purple series and one in the iridescent series. They both had the secondary serial number stamped below the regular serial number, and each had the reverse headstock and the tone control was a pull-tap for the bridge humbucker (can't recall if both had OBLs - I know the purple one did). I think those wandered away a few years back prior to my 'great buying a house' purge lol. I found a couple other Cali's to keep me busy, but I still miss those. My purple one had a GK2 installed, and was in the homeland (Canada) for a while but I lost track.

Thought it was odd that the purple one didn't have a shot of the back of the headstock and that the seller seemed confused about the exact year. The seller on ebay is likely misunderstanding the serial number sequence since he thinks they are from '91-92.there was also a short run (6 or so) of Cali Elites that were made for a Canadian shop (allegedly with consecutive serial numbers) - those didn't have the secondary serial number but all had flame maple bodies, reverse headstocks, and bound ebony fingerboards. I have a green one and a blue one(thanks, Not Chris) from that series with back-to-back serial numbers. Only need the other four lol...

The face of the headstocks on the two limited edition Cali's that I owned were painted and matched the body. That was an option, as I have seen other Cali's with matching headstocks as well. That purple was a pretty cool color, and I think there were also some SS-1s and Phantom A5's back in the day in a similar color iirc. I'm working up a Cabronita variant in Crown Royal Purple - always liked purple guitars lol.
