Stike Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I have a Mockingbird that's a touch neck heavy with the stock tuners. I ordered a set of the Gotoh Stealths but unfortunately the shaft that the button is on is a wee bit to short for where the holes are drilled on the headstock. Any other ideas?
RichRS6 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 The first Mockingbird I had (back in the 80's, God I wish I still had it) was like that. My solution was to make a new backplate for the control cavity and a new iinput jack plate out of thick brass sheet which I then had chromed, adds to the guitars weight but sorted the balance problem out a treat and looked pretty cool (in the 80's). Not much help in your quest for lightweight machine heads I know but it's all I've got............. Pics will help of course.
murkat Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I thinks sperzels are about the lightest out there, all machined aluminum.ormaybe bare back waverly's? ($$$)
velorush Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Would these help? Ebony buttons really helped my Gibson when I exchanged it's heavy "fingers" tailpiece for a trapeze!
Bennyboy-UK Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Mines the same, I've not worked out how to fix it, but it's not so bad that I can't live with it.I had a grippy suede strap on it that helped it stay put... That worked.
tomteriffic Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 I fixed a heck-heavy Eclipse 12 with pearloid buttons.
triodecr Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 It looks like Murkat for the win!!!Jol talked about tuners in one of his PG articles:http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/Hot-Rod_Your_Electric_Tiny_Tone_Tweaks_Done_Dirt_Cheap
cmatthes Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Murkat nailed my suggestion(s). I'd go with the Sperzels with pearloid/ivoroid/ebony buttons, only because the Waverlys (which are lighter) would just look too "antiquey" on that guitar.
Armitage Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 My Mockingbird is neck heavy too, I've thought of having a back control plate made of brass, but just never got around to doing it. If you want to see if different tuner buttons will help, just take three or four off for a moment to see if it hangs better. I don't think it'll make enough difference. I'm surprised they don't make the body a tiny bit thicker to make up for it...

I ordered a set of the Gotoh Stealths but unfortunately the shaft that the button is on is a wee bit to short for where the holes are drilled on the headstock. Any other ideas?Just secure a small weighted item inside of the control cavity to counter balance the neck....
Tres Aardvarks Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Interesting. My B12M is considerably neck heavy. Might have to consider switching out tuners (with 12 of them that could make a big difference).

Lots of switches n dials, looks like its designed to be paired up with a Mesa MkV. caddie
