hamertek98 Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Thanks for the pic. I was wondering what shape it was in. Along with Greg, I dig the old logos. This is a great candidate for a Benchreport. Can't wait to see the process. Have fun!
Guest bondedbybrick Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Great to see another Black Sunburst! Keep us posted on the progress with pics, although you'll have to bug Greg occasionally to get some! Instead of using 400 grit sandpaper to uncover a serial # try 1000 grit and be very careful. I tried and failed to find a serial# on mine.......
Guest pirateflynn Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Wow......that's nice man! Great fingerboard.I will certainly keep you guys posted.
Guest pirateflynn Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Okay................it's been awhile. I got a late start but here's something really important. The serial number! .................I am good! '79 #9 1011 Crystal Clear .......................I have pictures. I just can't post them.Much more soon.
LordOfTheThighs Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 With all those knobs and switches, I thought it was a BC Rich Bich. Really though, that's a great catch, and when Dr. Greg gets done, it will be bitchin' !
Guest pirateflynn Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 I have no idea what the previous owner was thinking! All the extra switches are gone and this beauty is going back to original (or very close).I decided to do most of the restoration work myself, so it's here at home with me. As soon as I can post new pics I will. I talked to Ted about my probelm posting pics and he's looking into it.This guitar is going to be insane!Revealing the serial # is a big score.'79 # 9 1011
martin-uk Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Sweet,i have 9 0955 same colour,crowned and bound!martin.
serial Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 That number checks out in the logs. June 1, 1979. Very cool-not many black '79s and even fewer bound and crown '79 Sunbursts!
kizanski Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Piling on! Serial knows this one quite well...
Guest pirateflynn Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 That number checks out in the logs. June 1, 1979.  Very cool-not many black '79s and even fewer bound and crown '79 Sunbursts! Guest pirateflynn Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Here's a pic of the serial #http://photobucket.com/albums/c364/piratef...nt=IMG_4466.jpg I numbered the tuners so each one will go back to it's original spot. That way the paint that lifted off with the tuner will marry up to the back of the headstock.Have a look at the album below. A few pics.http://photobucket.com/albums/c364/piratef...nt=IMG_4469.jpg
BCR Greg Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Not bad work for a fledgeling. If I had another tech to help with the workload, I'd be loving that job. Sadly, I am too busy.Maybe a Black B&C family photo album is in order?
cmatthes Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Nicework so far, PF! Looking forward to seeing the finished product! Thanks for sharing the pics.
Guest pirateflynn Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Okay, I cleaned her up the best I could, secured most of the parts I needed, including vintage Dimarzio pickup rings. The Black Sunburst is now in the hands of Eric Chaz (Czechanski, possible relative of Kiz'), here in Los Angeles. He came highly recommended (by Stan Lee) and will perform the remainder of the restoration. The job will include: re-drilling the mini toggle area, sizing and installing mahogany dowels, refinishing the top of the guitar, new nut and frets, installing original electronics (pots, switch, jack and pickups). The paint will be done by his finish man, whose name excapes me at the moment but I will post it here in the near future.I'm still looking for an original neck pickup and knobs. If I can't find the pickup in time I will install a Fralin zebra and continue my search. Thanks for all the kind words and encouragment, including quite a few emails from some of you guys. More soon!
