I'm looking for a new medium size practice amp (to replace my 25 year old peavey Bandit) I mainly play blues and have been looking at the fender blues deluxe and a few Marshall and Black star amps.

My budget is £500 any suggestions please

Contact Jim at Lil Dawg amps and ask what he can build you for that money. HW PTP goodness for blues.....tell him Mark sent you.

I recently bought a Peavey Classic 212 Stereo Chorus [1989 USA] from a guy in Louth! It's the best combo amp I ever bought & I've owned everything. Peavey all the way with me mate ;)

And I never rated Marshall (sold my JCM900 to buy a Randall)...

For the price you usually can't beat a Peavey Classic. I have a Classic 50 4x10 tweed combo that I picked up used for under 500 us dollars. Two channels (clean and dirty) footswtichable and reverb. It is really good. My buddy has a Peavey Classic 30 1x12 which is why I considered the Classic 50, which also came in a 2x12 configuration.

neither. My experience with Fender amps is this: Great cleans but hard to get a good overdrive sound.

My experience with Marshall combos is this: Great overdrive sound but hard to get a good clean sound.

There are a lot of combos out there that have both a good clean and overdrive channel. Look at companies like Peavey, Traynor, Laney, and others.

I'm pretty sure the OP means a Classic series amp ...as in VTX or before. Not the same as the current Classics.

My Classic 50 and my buddy's Classic 30 were models started in the 90s. They have tweed covers. Nice Fender type cleans but second channel has real chewy grisslely drive. Take pedals well too. They also added effects loops to the 50w later but I don't have one. With the built in reverb though it doesn't matter. My 50 also has a master volume. Game set match.

I have an almost mint JCM800 4010 50 watt amp for sale. Never gigged or even used in a rehersal room. Only at home and for some recording by the previous owner - who used to run a music shop in the 80's. I have also only had it at home since I bought it. Not a mark on it.

I have two other Marshall combos, so I really don't need this one. But I guess shipping to the UK would be costly.

at your price point ( assuming around 350 us ) I'd probably go for a good clean sound & use pedals for the O.D. , fender , marshall , pv ,gibson & I'm sure there are a lot of cool small amps with good clean tones we dont see over here . 12 ' speaker , 20 watts , good clean tone , add a couple pedals , good to go! ( for practice or small gigs )

Is this any good to you mate? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEAVEY-AMPLIFIER-212-STEREO-CHORUS-200-WATTS-/171159701650

I got an 89 USA version [150w / 212] & it's by far the best combo I ever had. I can play my Electro-Acoustics thru' the clean else my Electrics with a Distortion & both sound f**king MINT! The CHORUS?REVERB on these is sweet as a nut ;)

There is a third way...

A Vox - alike amp.

Try an Orange Ad15. Maybe ad30 as well would fit into the budget

I sometimes write about them on here.

I'd buy another one to replace one I sold.

I've had 2 Valvekings but the Peavey Classic 212 trannies can't be beat IMO. I've always played punk/metal/rock/blues & always (wrongly) thought I needed a tube amp = I was well wrong! My 212 Classic 150 Chorus is FKN AWESOME!!!

If you're in the Mansfield area anytime soon, buzz me (we moved from Nottingham) ;)

;)

That's what I had back in the day! I had the model before that as well...it just said Classic on it. Around the same time as Deuce, TKO and all the others Peavey had out back then. That seemed to be all the local mom and pops ever sold, and this was before the day of online and mega stores so we didn't have much choice... at least where we were.

I love Peavey amps! That said, if I was still playing live [thrash/metal], I would deff go with a RANDALL but this is my main amp right now:
