Nocturnal Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 New member to the forum and I just bought my first Hamer bass. I have wanted a Blitz Bass ever since they came out in the early 80's and I finally pulled the trigger on one. I bought a 1982 Blitz Bass (serial number 2 7081) finished in red. Came with it's original (beat up) case and the original sales receipt ($954 in 1982 money), plus there was a letter from Paul Hamer to the original owner confirming that they had received his warranty card. This bass has been played a lot but still plays, sounds, and feels fantastic!! There is a lot of finish checking and a bit of wear and tear but I consider that as "character". I am really glad that I finally bought one and am sorry that I waited so long!! It doesn't seem to have the proper truss rod cover tho. It is sporting a Cruise Bass TRC which I doubt was original to the bass. Don't these usually have a typical blank bell shaped TRC? Anyhow, happy to finally be a Hamer bass owner!!
BTMN Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Welcome. I have an '83 Blitz bass that came with a Cruisebass TRC too. Hide your wallet. Hamers are great. We here are kind of biased though.
Steve Haynie Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 My Blitz feels like magic sometimes. Glad you like yours!
cmatthes Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 That looks great! Nice score...the neck on mine is a freakin' tree trunk!
Nocturnal Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I really am enjoying this bass so far. I don't find the neck too fat but I have heard other people make the same comment about having a fat neck. Did Hamer make the Blitz with different neck profiles? This neck seems wide but flat-ish to me. Sorta like an Epi TBird neck. Honestly the fat neck talk was what kept me from buying one for so long.So BTMN, the TRC on yours is original? Maybe they just used whatever covers they had laying around when these basses were built???
specialk Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Welcome and congrats on the Blitz! She looks like a great one.
BTMN Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I would say so. I bought it in 1997 at Sam Ash with original case. The finish was beat to schmuck. Best $125 I have ever spent on a Hamer.
BTMN Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Your comment about what was around was what was used at times is pretty dead on I have heard from a reliable source.
Steve Haynie Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 The neck on my Blitz is bigger feeling that some other basses, but not that much.
Nocturnal Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 Thanks for the replies. I have a feeling this won't be my last Hamer bass
velorush Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 1. Welcome 2. Awesome bass! 3. EVEN THIS BLITZ HAS A CRUISEBASS TRUSS ROD COVER! Is there no justice?! [/whiny rant]* * the number of Cruisebass truss rod covers in existence can be expressed formulaically as N - 1, where N represents the total number of Cruisebasses in existence. I am now revising formula to N - 2. But seriously, that's too cool! Edited to explain: I can't seem to locate a TRC for my Cruise so it was a huge irony to me (in a piling on kind of way) when your Blitz showed up with one.
