Thundersteel Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I am talking to you Tyler, G&L and Valley Arts. There isn't anything wrong with G&L headstocks!
soli'd Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Does anyone else think it has the silhouette of a big camper trailer?I've always seen it as a hand with the ring and pinky fingers folded down, like a peace sign without the fingers spread... But I definitely see the camper now, too!Love the Ultimate headstock... The size and placement of the logo looks great as is.
HSB0531 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Yes, Rick. That excess wood gets removed when the neck is carved to final thickness. It provides some extra strength while the headstock is shaped at this point. Males especially should never remove excess wood. Oh...wait. We're talking guitars. Never mind.
LucSulla Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I dig it, personally. I think it looks pretty classic.
tmsfo Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Funny, when I first looked at it it seemed too elongated. I did a search on explorer headstock images and it's right on. I guess I'm been looking at too many recent Standards (which have always looked blocky to me).
David B Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Funny, when I first looked at it it seemed too elongated. That's impossible.
The Shark Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 The truss rod nuts and washers came in today. I think I crossed my own line of sanity by having the washers machined, and I'm just getting started.FukkinA RIGHT you're getting custom washers! I mean, WTF am I paying for, anyway?I'm not sure why, but I don't see "Northfield's" post at 7:54pm. I only see this response. No need to comment further! Every day is a day closer to Mike finishing the first one. I wonder who gets it? No I don't.
RobB Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I'm just stoked that I can read YOUR post. Sweet...
mrjamiam Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 For the record, I like what I see of the headstock study, but I am one of the ones who is expecting it to be Mike's design in the end. And I'll like it. Unless it's ugly. But so far I'm not worried.
HSB0531 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Give mike a a knife and a tree and he'll make you a guitar.Just be patient. The headstock will look just fine.
Hamer Dave Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I like the logo at the end of the headstock. Away from overhead tensioned wires! Liked it from the get go, and hoped to see it in production, or at least on mine. Been a very busy week behind the scenes. Found my old custom bench sitting in the shipping area of the old shop. Was glad to be able to drag it to my new shop. And then today I found a vintage stool to go along with it. Really starting to feel like home in the shop. Have been playing around with the headstock design for the Ultimates, and have come up with this. It is neither .... or....., but it feels right, it is mine. What do you guys think? cool, still hurts to know that beautiful New England Mill building is empty... headstock looks good. just my opinion, I like the logo where it sits in this pic, kickass. just sayin.
