cmatthes Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 They got a two-fer on Holly - Valens also played a Strat. They had to pay for Keith Richards immortatility somehow. Clapton has also managed to dodge the bullet.Actually, Clapton was cursed/sentenced to putting out shitty music for the last 50 years of his life...

crunchee Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 If anyone wants something REALLY different on a Strat theme, there's always the long-discontinued Dewey Decibel Flipout:http://www.guitarplayer.com/gear/1012/whack-job-2004-dewey-decibel-flipout/51336http://www.deweydecibel.com/guitarpage.html

The stuff he did with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and Cream still holds up. Something definitely went wrong around 1970.

Quote from Wikipedia: "In 1970, Clapton switched from Gibson guitars to Fender Stratocasters, largely due to the influences of Jimi Hendrix and Blind Faith bandmate Steve Winwood." Coincidence? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackie_%28guitar%29

MCChris Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I dunno, i rather liked the Miami Vice threads/Lace Sensors into Soldano period. Great hair too: Then came this:

kizanski Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I dunno, i rather liked the Miami Vice threads/Lace Sensors into Soldano period. Great hair too: When it comes to Clapton, I'm more of a Gibsons-through-Marshalls kinda guy. I've had little use for anything he's done played through any Fender. And I'm sure he's kept awake at night lamenting this.

tbonesullivan Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 His live stuff has been sounding really good. With the mid-boost he's got on his Strats he really does get a nice fat sound.I keep waiting for the "beano burst" guitar to resurface in the public eye. Clapton has said he knows where it is, but won't elaborate.

Clapton has said he knows where it is, but won't elaborate.Stolen by a "friend" then (perhaps)?I really really like the Slowhand album. Maybe because it was an eight-track that I wore out completely, but I still like most of that album. "The Core" is still a great track regardless of what era of Clapton one is talking about. I also like the 24 Nights live album that came out twenty or so years ago. It was "Bradshaw Rack" era Clapton, but it didn't seem too processed for the most part.Still, I really like him with a 335 (I posted a recent-ish video of him wailing with a red one not too long ago - still sounds great in his hands). I am a Strat guy through and through, but I prefer him with humbuckers (and I don't think the mid boost on the Clapton Strat gets him to the same place). I am sure he lies awake at night worrying about that, too!
