crunchee Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 No affiliation. Fender hasn't gotten around to putting a description on their 'Artist' series section of their website yet...not that I can find, anyway. Sweetwater has these too, but DGS has purtier pikturs. hamerhead Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Dammit. I was hoping for the Gibson version.
bruce919 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 The Hendrix family & Fender have made up for the moment. It would be cool if they made a three tone Sunburst with Rosewood fretboard version.
crunchee Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 The Hendrix family & Fender have made up for the moment. Just in time for the Holiday shopping season!
velorush Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 A lefty trem would have been way cooler than the flipped bridge pickup (in my opinion). It's interesting to me as Hendrix is the person for whom I think a signature guitar works least; he was the poster child for using bone-stock, run-of-the-mill (even CBS) guitars. If, taking Hendrix as a mentor speaks anything to me, it's "go to the store, play a few guitars, pick out the one you like best, then gig it." The ultimate witness for "tone is in the hands."
Ting Ho Dung Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Tremolo and knobs are on the wrong side.
cmatthes Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 THIS is the way to go...I call this one "The Kiz Special": Seriously - this is one of my favorite guitars.
Jem Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Yes, why didn't they reverse the whole bloody thing - not that I'm the slightest bit interested but to my mind that's an Epic Failure.
crunchee Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 Yes, why didn't they reverse the whole bloody thing - not that I'm the slightest bit interested but to my mind that's an Epic Failure. They reversed most everything on the old JH 'Tribute' Strat, including the headstock decal. I REALLY dig that mirror image logo! Like, trippy, man. http://www.themusiczoo.com/product/10300/Fender-Jimi-Hendrix-Tribute-Stratocaster-Electric-Guitar-Olympic-White---Used/ Edited to add: The Music Zoo ad is old and that guitar is apparently long gone. I'm guessing they kept the ad for their archive, or for bragging rights.
RobB Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Yes, why didn't they reverse the whole bloody thing - not that I'm the slightest bit interested but to my mind that's an Epic Failure.I kinda like the black one. The wrongness of it is what appeals to me. It has some useful specs like the med/jumbo frets and the 9.5 radius.
T-51Fred Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I've never played a fender I'd pay 2K for. They don't exist. In fact, even though strat styles are my guitar of choice, I don't think there is one worth that much. If the goal is finding a superior playing and sounding instrument then half that is top dollar, at the current rate of inflation, anyway.
mc2 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I'll bet Fender killed Hendrix too, if you check into it. ...and Stevie Ray. They kill everything they touch. Started with Buddy Holly. Yoko was probably Leo's secret daughter from WWII, creted to kill The Beatles.
stonge Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 THIS is the way to go...I call this one "The Kiz Special": I was thinking "Hendrix meets Dick Dale" but I could be wrong (but that would be cool)... Seriously - this is one of my favorite guitars.
tbonesullivan Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 how soon until the "heavy relic" burnt version shows up?
crunchee Posted October 28, 2015 Author Posted October 28, 2015 how soon until the "heavy relic" burnt version shows up? I wouldn't be surprised if FMIC had thought about putting out a version of the Jimi Hendrix/Frank Zappa 'Miami Pop Festival' Strat: http://www.guitarplayer.com/gear/1012/dweezil-zappa-shows-frank-zappas-jimi-hendrix-strat/50805
polara Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Functionally it makes sense to have the "reversed" tuners and pickup slant. Have the lighter strings that are more prone to stretch be shorter, and get more of the"close to the bridge" twang on the lower strings while taking some bite off the higher ones. It's not all that Hendrix to me, but the 9.5" radius and the above changes probably make it a good guitar to play.
diablo175 Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I see the JH Strat as a canvas, awaiting the brush strokes of modification. Swap out the pickups (or at least the bridge one) better tuners, a Wilkinson trem and viola!Love that reversed 60's head stock. Number of folks I've chatted with about Strats , find it aesthetically clunky and unappealing but I like it!
SSII x 2 Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Funny thing is, when Jimi was still alive, those late 60s CBS-era Stratswere considered dogs by most guitar aficionados. It wasn't until quite a whileafter Jimi's death that the idolaters managed to drive the prices paid forthem up into the stratosphere...
Steve Haynie Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Fender has a page up on this guitar now.
mc2 Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 how soon until the "heavy relic" burnt version shows up? I wouldn't be surprised if FMIC had thought about putting out a version of the Jimi Hendrix/Frank Zappa 'Miami Pop Festival' Strat:IFender didn't have much of a sense of humor about burnt guitars back in 1994, when I was Editor of the major MI trade magazine "Music & Sound Retailer." When Fender's Mexican plant burned down after having just moved a lot of its electric guitar production there, I phoned CEO Bill Schultz up and suggested he have them shoot clear on all the charred bodies and make clocks with Fender plaques on them to commemorate the fire with a Hendrix reference. I told him it could turn a tradgedy into something good.....said he could send them out as gifts to all their dealers....some sort of sign that Fender would rise above the trajedy, etc.Fender's marketing guy and some department heads thought it was genius but Shultz didn't get it and said no way.
tbonesullivan Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Interesting. At least Gibson had their "flood" guitars. And then the "government issue" guitars. There is always this picture of Frank Zappa when he had some weird electronics in the hendrix strat. Looks like a carvin neck pickup, and who knows what else:
rj2858 Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I'll bet Fender killed Hendrix too, if you check into it. ...and Stevie Ray. They kill everything they touch. Started with Buddy Holly. Yoko was probably Leo's secret daughter from WWII, creted to kill The Beatles. They got a two-fer on Holly - Valens also played a Strat.
it's me HHB Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Jimi used some wiring tricks on his strats, watch the Woodstock DVD closely...
tbonesullivan Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 They got a two-fer on Holly - Valens also played a Strat. They had to pay for Keith Richards immortatility somehow. Clapton has also managed to dodge the bullet.
