RobB Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 What is the advantage of a 1/4-sawn body versus a flat-sawn one?

scottcald Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 With all these Superstrats, when are you going to have a Clark Kent Strat made with glasses and no trem?

diablo175 Posted August 16, 2023 Author Posted August 16, 2023 It's a good time to be a lover of super Strats ! Got a trio of lovelies in the works! First, there's the ridiculously overpriced and snails pace delivery of Charvel Custom shop DK 24. Ordered in Jan '21, due Summer of '24, it's still something to look forward to. This one boasts a factory toggle (something that the dealer's run specs did not include) and the requisite garish graphic- a yellow snakeskin paint job by none other than Brian Bock! Brian painted my other CS DK24, the HEL Spitfire2, the warped checks of the DK 24 limited edition and my beloved Jackson CS FWAM. Arriving in Dec. or Jan. is the previously mentioned Ted Stevenson custom order Standard 24. Very excited about this one as Ted's work has gotten rave reviews and looks incredible. His backlog of orders is growing as more find out about him! This one will feature a Sustainiac and LED fret marker inlays. Finally, in something of departure, I took a chance on another sort of-local builder, Vince Michael Guitars, to build me a full sized Strat but with a modified lower horn to accommodate access to the 24 fret maple neck. This will also feature other nods to the vaunted Fender flagship model: the front-of-body angled jack input and the iconic Olympic white paint scheme with the a Strat-style white pickguard. It was inspired by this Charvel San Dimas masterbuild:
scottcald Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 Sounds cool! The picture though just reinforces my disdain for the relic thing.

To think folks pay extra for that treatment. But to each, their own. Hey, just pay me 50 bucks and I'll drag it behind my Jeep for a few miles. Presto!
Dave Scepter Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 I'm the minority here as I love relic guitars... modding one of my Squiers using this as an example 🤙

To me, that’s just insult to injury. 😆 but I get it. I tend to polish turds. You just make them look like they’ve been flushed a few times. 😉

diablo175 Posted August 22, 2023 Author Posted August 22, 2023 Some examples of Ted Stevenson's work. Am quite excited to see what he does for my build. And no, I'm not using his head stock design

diablo175 Posted August 28, 2023 Author Posted August 28, 2023 Oh bay-beee! My Ted Stevenson got paint this past weekend! Purple metal flake. Hmm. I wonder where the inspiration for that could have come from?
