veatch Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 ... and though not common, I've seen (and owned) a few with tone controls. Usually will OBL or EMG pickups, though.
cspot Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Ser#719887, was bound that way when I bought it several years back, looks professionally done; strap lock off center due to original being snapped off😶
cmatthes Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 I found some pics that this guy had posted from before the current listing. While I believe Jol and the factory logs that this was originally done in a natural mahogany oil finish, I'm concerned about a pic that shows black paint (looks like spraypaint?) in the Floyd recess on the top. I don't see why that would have been done at the factory. Wondering if it was originally oiled mahogany, then rattlecanned black, then sanded and re-oiled (or something?). Without having it in hand, I'm not confident in Jol's call on this one. I agree that it may have left the factory like this, but that finish bugs me...

kurtsstuff Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 That's been rattle canned a couple times..black then..clear..it's all over it..
Joe G Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 On the bay now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hamer-Californian-USA-Made-Original-Finish-/152546780435?hash=item23847f2513:g:luUAAOSw~y9ZFjZG

In the spring cavity also. That's what alerted me in the first place. The finish it has now...I'd say pretty far from oil. And to spraycan something, that was oiled before, should take some serious sanding. Do not know why would anyone do it. The only spot that could clear this whole thing up will be neck pocket. If it has traces of black ( or some other color, it always has traces of original paint), then this is sanded body. 2 hours ago, mrjamiam said: This is what happens when you don't jump on a deal when you find it. I do not think $800 for this one is a deal to jump on. He'll get offers in a range of $600. Unfortunately, if it sells on ebay, we will not know the final price, as ebay does not show it anymore.

texwest Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 Looking at the pics I'm still concerned that someone put oil finish on the fretboard. Look carefully at the 5th pic on ebay you can see some black on the body. And that color in general looks more like brown than oiled mahogany. But giving it benefit of the doubt, it might be really dirty.
veatch Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 ...and sold... Given the amount of work it wold take, $500 would have been my tops - simply not worth it. Hope it rawks as is, and the buyer puts it to good use.

cynic Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 www.watchcount.com It takes a few clicks but you can eventually get to the best offer history.
