hardheartedbill Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 I'm w/ Jaye , I watched the Blue Collar Comedy roast and all I heard were gay jokes, this is from professional comedians too, is that the best they can do? I am sickened by the war on these people thats been going on , and I know that many times "gay" is a synonym for "lame" in the straight world but we need to change that, it hurts some of our brothers deeply, something I'm sure we don't want to do
MCChris Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 With all due respect to Judas Priest, because in fact musically I like 'em, but for God sake can we put a lid on that pathetic homo-metal fashion statement. They look ridiculous...hell they looked ridiculous 25 years ago, now it's just embarressing. The lamest part about comments like these is that no one would probably ever mention the "homo" element had Halford not come out. Perhaps they'd still point out that to them the leather and studs look ridiculous, but would the gay aspect come into play? I think not.I still say Klaus sucks. For his performance in "When Passion Rules the Game" alone he should receive a beatdown of Reginald Denny proportions. And if he wrote those lyrics? He should be f'n executed.
kizanski Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Stream of conscience post on the way....Hunter_Brown had been here for a while and the word "gay" has at times become synonymous with "lame" - these are both true statements. However using the expression "homo-metal" when describing the stage image of a gay entertainer is not acceptable. It would be hard to convince me at this point that his statement was meant to be innocuous."Troll is as troll does." Well put, HHB.I thought that The Muse's coining of the word "ghey" was a happy medium: it's not meant in a homosexual way, but the "High School synonymos with lame" way. Certainly not meant to offend, but still describe lameness. And don't get me started on the "Blue Collar Comedy" thing! I think it is false advertising to use the word "comedy" when describing any of their standups.I didn't see the "roast" mainly because they all give me the willies.Larry the Cable Guy? What the f**k is he saying? The guy with the drink in his hand and the Osmond teeth? What the hell is that?Douche chills all over me....
ZR Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Ok that song's kinda lame but Klaus still rocks. Yeah, he's kind of a funny looking short guy (like Dio...LOOK OUT!) but what I like about them is that they took what God gave them (oh no...another flame thread started!) and did the best with it that they could. He didn't let those things hold him back. Even the fact that their English is sometimes broken and heavily accented might actually be a part of what makes their songs unique. The Scorpions have always rocked hard on stage and I've always thought of them as a very hard working band. They always reminded me of vagabond gypsies traveling the world and performing in an over the top fashion like some kind of Russian circus performers (yes, I know they are from Hanover, Germany). There show just always had such energy. They were never afraid to rock out or get mellow at times too. Iliked it all. Their last album, "Unbreakable" is quite rockin'!
virtual Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Personally, I think Priest looks cooler than ever. In the 80's it was the obvious thing to be doing. But 20 years later... Halford, post-coming-out-of-closet, lines on his face, head shaved, carries an air of courage and old school "legit" that puts some substance behind all the tough guy stylings. It's an ironic and IMO really cool side-effect of publicity that many assumed would kill any rocker's career. As for the rest, they look like they're sticking to their guns, still playing their own roles rather than chasing after Metallica's hair stylist. More power to 'em.Weird thing with Priest is I thought they were goofy when I was a 13 yr old metal head (Sabbath was the real deal for me). Now I'm well into my 30's I think they rock. The guitarists are hotter than ever.BTW if you think Klaus sux (he is weird as hell I'll give you that) try singing along with the guy for more than 3 minutes. It might stunt your growth, too LOL. And if you hate the Scorps ca. 1990 do yourself a favor and listen to some 70's stuff... loud.
virtual Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 "The guy with the drink in his hand and the Osmond teeth? What the hell is that?"That guys name is White and he's actually the one among them that I find very funny. The whole "cool to be a redneck" movement isn't likely to do US culture a lot of good in the long run, but if you catch that guys solo act its pretty clear he's got some talent.
MCChris Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 OK OK LOL. Obviously Klaus has pipes and doesn't "suck," just like he shouldn't be beaten up or executed because of a song (although I do enjoy the electric chair sequence near the end of the "No One Like You" video, until of course he appears in the very next scene clad in nothing but some powder blue briefs. Yecch). It's all an exaggeration and should be taken as such.I just think he's a goofball. Rudy is too.
ZR Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Oh, I know you're not being serious and yes Rudy's kind of nutty!!
virtual Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 "I just think he's a goofball. Rudy is too."Oh yeah, totally. In the 80's that seemed to be the whole point of the band. And after 6 or 7 years of listening to Sabbath exclusively, it was exactly what I needed.
Hunter_Brown Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 My use of the term HOMO was insensitive and I apologize to Jisham or anybody else to whom that had offended. Slamming gays was not the agenda, it was an ignorant oversight - something I'm apparently the only person ever guilty of having done. Everyone's free to have their little dogpile, I take ownership of this one. I've also been around long enough to watch some of you realize your own stupidity, Bill ring a bell?? Anyway, again my apologies to Jisham, I've come to realize this guy is damn cool over the years and having offended him does bother me. Bill, couldn't give a shit would you think of me.
Jeff R Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 "British Steel" was one of the records that taught me how to play guitar. Just for that reason, JP could come out wearing leather and studs or bathrobes and pajamas for all I care. I'm thankful they're still around. And the Scorpions have written some GREAT songs but Klaus and Rudy look like a pair of rodeo clowns on stage.I played in a band that used to cover "No One Like You" and our singer used to sing the line "...I miss you since I've been ah-wee" hahaha
Brooks Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 "The guy with the drink in his hand and the Osmond teeth? What the hell is that?"That guys name is White and he's actually the one among them that I find very funny. BruceM Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 I don't care how long he's been here...what he wrote is still out of line. And FOR THE RECORD: I'm NOT backing off this time. I've laid low the past few weeks and seen him and others make alot of really offensive statements that I just let go. But not this time. This shit GETS OLD. Damnit, do the Gay Police have to read EVERY STINKING THREAD on this board? I've been avoiding this thread because I don't pay too much attention to these bands. Now I find that there's a festering brouhaha. It will surprise no one to know that I'm totally with Jaye on this one. If you're not gay, it's difficult to understand the level of disgust registered with each tired old "haha gay is fey" joke that's all the rage these days, or worse yet, the government sponsored attacks under the guise of saving the institution that is heterosexual marriage from the likes of me. It's everywhere, and it takes it's toll. Forgive me for being ultra-sensitive to this, but like Jaye, I don't like it and I don't have to take it with resignation.
Brooks Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Yeah, he's kind of a funny looking short guy (like Dio...LOOK OUT!) Short and funny lookin' !?! Dude, I don't even know who you are but you should know some of us who've been here a helluva long time are short and funny lookin' and I'm one of 'em.
Rockola Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Yeah, he's kind of a funny looking short guy (like Dio...LOOK OUT!) Short and funny lookin' !?! Dude, I don't even know who you are but you should know some of us who've been here a helluva long time are short and funny lookin' and I'm one of 'em. Bing!....I got that (insert Ned Ryerson growl)

Thanks...

I think we short and ugly folk should get together and prove we're still here!!! Nobody's paid attention since Napoleon...let's show the world we're still kickin and pissed!!!!!
salem Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Doed anyone else agree that Halford is one of the best dancers in rock and roll?
