My friend Aaron (the true pawn king) got this mic yesterday, -it's a hard one to figure out, anybody know anything?, the blue paint does appear to be 'aftermarket'. I'll tell him about that little 'flower' setting on his camera for closeups...

Looks like a Neumann U47 to me. Unreal. I have no idea what it is worth, but I'll bet it sounds amazing.

IIRC Telefunken didn't make mics, they were made by Neumann and Telefunken put their badge on them. I could be WAY off on that, but that is my understanding.

BTW There is a U47 on E-bay right now for 11K. LOL!!!

Does it have the power supply?

the U47 was da bomb. Telefunken was the distributor until '59. Its been described as the Les Paul of mics - thick, full sound with a velvety sheer across the hi mids.

the price tag on this particular set was around 6k. minty ones could fetch 10k. here's a good primer...

Often considered to be the Holy Grail of tube mikes. I was spoiled rotten back in the 70's when I had a dozen and a half at my disposal, plus a similar number of tube U-67's and 87's.

Telefunken did originally market these under their name. I forget the model number now, but I believe it had something like 253 in it.

Coincidentally, they were blue. But not like that one.

You know what really sucks? I'll bet there are radio stations all over America with several of those boxed up in junk storage. I know we had a few of them in my college radio station's junk room, replaced with more modern stuff.

Shame I didn't realize the value (monetary AND soundwise) of those mikes back then - I could have probably scored the whole lot ridiculously stoopid dirt cheap as "auctioned surplus property."

Could scored awholemessa MillaLite!

By the way, this is a Newman.

I'm jealous...those are THE vocal mics of all time. I had a pair in an old studio and sold them for $6K back in the early '80s...
