RoyB Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 So now it's your turn to put in your two cents on the conversion, so please vote in the poles. First color I will either do the guitar just as it was in cherryburst or in a Zander style natural, and on the bridge it will either be the Kahler it came with or a stock ARB-1 and tailpiece setup. Please try to stick ony to these options as I'm torn betwen making it factory untouched or doing the Zander thing. If I do it back as it was I'm going to get Rick to sign it again as well.
murkat Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Well Roy, I voted natural with AVR/TP.I am actually torn, split in the middle.I want it back to stock as much as possible to reflect what it was and enjoy it as what is was, it was cool stock. But, it will never be stock again. So, Natural with avr/tp would be very cool. I just watched Cheap Trick @ Buddakhan... and Rick is opening the show with his zander standard, and I goota say, besides his sloppy play'n and wall of marshall head tone, that Standard is prettycool.
veatch Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Normally i'd say put it back to factory spec, but i simply can't vote for a Kahler...
David B Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Forget the Kahler. It's not stock anymore. It has crowns unlike the Zandard, so either color is fine.
hamerhead Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Since it was AFU when you got it, it frees you to do as you see fit. I think a TOM is more desirable than a Kahler, both playing-wise and resale-wise. And with 'being original' out the window, I say put a Sustain Block on it! (I may have one left I could donate.....)! BTW - your work to this point is incredible. Whatever you decide, your skills are loud and clear.
cmatthes Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Definitely the stop/tuna. What about an aged amber top and an SG Cherry back/sides/neck?
Guest pirateflynn Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Definitely the stop/tuna. What about an aged amber top and an SG Cherry back/sides/neck?That's it!
cmatthes Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Either that or the SG Cherry back/sides/neck and a darkburst top.
BTMN Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Cant wait to see the finished beauty. Aged Trans Amber Yum!!!
LordOfTheThighs Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 I voted amber and stop tail.I wouldn't hang the Kahler back on it. Some guitars just aren't made for them. Standards are likeLes Pauls .... they have NO business with a vibrato on them ... IMHO.Oh yeah ... me thinks you'll need the pick-up selector ring on it also.I'm really pumped about seeing the final product. You've done a great job on it so far.
murkat Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Standards are like Les Pauls .... they have NO business with a vibrato on them .. Hey, i kinda take offence to that remark! Hey Roy, just curious` You plan n keeping this jem or selling it?
RoyB Posted May 4, 2008 Author Posted May 4, 2008 Hey Roy, just curious` You plan n keeping this jem or selling it? At this time I'm into buying not selling at this point. This one like the gold 82 will be labors of love because with the work I'm doing I'd loose my ass if I sell it
Stike Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 I voted stop/tuna V. Amber but ya know a double stain Gretsch orange would look kick ass.
LordOfTheThighs Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Standards are like Les Pauls .... they have NO business with a vibrato on them .. Hey, i kinda take offence to that remark! Hey Roy, just curious` You plan n keeping this jem or selling it? Sorry my brutha. No offense to the vibrato'd crowd out there. I just see certain guitars with them, and certain guitars without them. Even being the huge Frehley fan that I am, it broke my heart when he used to play those Wonder-Bar LPs.

Ace! thats scary.
serial Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Definitely the stop/tuna. What about an aged amber top and an SG Cherry back/sides/neck?+1!!
RoyB Posted May 4, 2008 Author Posted May 4, 2008 Ok the bridge and tailpiece are done (see other post). It's got to be a Cherry back because the back has cherry down deep in the grain from the original finish, so it's looking like amber top and cherry back so far.
GusS Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 if the cherry back is a given please do it in cherry burst
RoyB Posted May 4, 2008 Author Posted May 4, 2008 So the bridge is a done deal, and the back will be cherry, so now lets limit the color of the top to three colors. The two above or a faded almost burst like seen on this Paul.
edgar_allan_poe Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 I dig the faded burst, my second pick would be amber. I am not a big fan of cherry sunburst. Great work BTW.
