  1. I honestly can't help but to get pissed off quite a bit when I see the magic that unfolds when these gentleman touch a piece of wood and then to realize we are witnessing the last vestiges of a once great guitar company...

  2. So I'm first up. Let me just say how honored I am to be a part of this, and Gene (BTMN) is one cool individual for allowing us to share one unique man's vision of his guitar. I sold my last Hamer a couple of years ago to focus on a few core guitars, but strapping Wyldbil's Special on instantly brought back everything I love about Hamers - how effortless they play and a thick, but cutting tone. I had an '81 Special, but it was nowhere near the guitar in tone that this one is. You can hear it below. Unfortunately, we don't have a show until April 5th, but we started learning a song last week that fits in perfectly here, as it's a song by an early Hamer adopter, "Kid" by The Pretenders. It's just a quick one using my iPhone sitting on the mixer so you don't get to see the other half of the band, but you do get see whats important, and Wyldbil's guitar, too. Signal path is: guitar, Carbon Copy delay, '74 Fender Super Reverb. Of course, I flub the solo in front of all my Hamer brethren, but what can you do?

  3. I have had this idea. I sent this to Jay today. Instructions are to give it a setup and make it functional electronically. Bil put a lil whammy on this one. Looks like he tried, or did, put a nady wireless transmitter in it. With no receiver, I have no idea if it works. It does have a jack and that kind of works. It has had a few repairs and body mods. Beveling, belly cuts, and headstock repair oh my! Maybe a couple other things too. It was cheap when I bought it and I wanted a lil something Wyldbil if you will. He was that Cool. In that spirit I want to let this guitar visit a few of you. After Jay gets it set I want the Pirate Special #5 to come be played at your house, at a gig, a party, whatever. Keep it a week or four. You have to agree to ship it on to the next person though and eventually it will come back to me or I will meet up with it at say the 4321 club, a jam at Dave's in Olney, maybe a trip to Dallas to meet an old friend again, then again there is the semi yearly Seattle/Northwest Jam. I understand Tampa now has direct flights to Seattle. So who is interested in my social experiment? You also have to post photos of you playing Pirate Special #5. I was thinking about having Jay send it to one of the Matthes twins to get the ball rolling.

  4. I have the same kind of wife. A chain saw at Christmas spoils her more than flowers.

  9. That is a great idea that would help to bring the price down on this end.

  13. well, Bob, that was awesome! I called Judy over to see, as She was dancing to the jam in the kitchen, "Hey, it's the pirate 5 that was here last week..." Judy approved good times!

  14. Let's face it, there are a few options out there for a WMG. What is the most compelling thing about this one (for me at least) is the builder(s)... Master Northfield, if you build these, I'll find a way to buy one.
