Back then, the flame tops were just veneers, basically. Specials and Sunbursts had single-piece veneer tops, Standards had 2-pc tops (due to the sheer amount of real estate there).

Found another pic from when it was for sale a LONG time ago: (And for Steve...)
-
Yes indeed. Elduave ordered one on my '08 "Envyburst" standard. Ask, and ye shall receive!

It's not even a Steinberger - it's a Kramer Duke! That kind of crap does more to turn people away from religion than it helps. Actually, that probably turns people away from music. Positively awful.

Ask, and ye shall receive! Tipton Guitar in paint... (Jol's ESP must be in full-on mode!)

Wow - haven't seen that Mother May I video in almost 10 years! I've actually got it on an old VHS from 120 Minutes. I always liked those guys. -

Maybe a stupid question, but did it break or just get all bubbly and messy? -

Zendozer dawt calm Gawd, I love that guitar!! -
Watch out for this man. Hanging out with him is bad for your liver. Sounds like someone I'd get along with. You still have a liver?!

I personally love the Cult's cover of that. I do think that David Lee Roth's bluegrass cover of "Jump" (from Late Night TV) is quite possibly THE WORST thing I've ever witnessed. I actually saw my skin crawl, I was so embarassed for him.
-
The seller is not only setting a totally unrealistic price for that guitar (hoping to troll in some grossly uninformed buyer?), but he's also creative with his "facts". Good luck to him selling it anytime in the near future. Next few years, at that price, actually.

Thank you for understanding the purpose of the post!! Well put.

Unless they're different from somebody else's!! :D :D

I've NEVER said I didn't care for Journey. I HAVE stated that Steve Perry (the twirling, near-tearful, scarf-wrapped persona) annoyed the piss out of me, although I respected his talent. What I found pathetic was that whole image - definitely not what I considered to be metal. I'm sure some good bands did whatever the directors told them to do to move plastic and get MTV time, but at any rate, I'd hardly call that song metal. The bad-ass posing guys thinking they're all hard and $#!+ while playing pop stuff and wearing the pretty boy makeup was just a goofy thing for rock. It may have worked for the Crue (partially because they were more badassed than say, Poison), but it ended up being the kiss of death for far more bands from that era. Just look what it did for Billy Squier and Kip Winger (okay, not metal, but the same result). I actually wasn't exactly part of the "Skinny tie" crowd - I was more into the WHO, Zep, Dave VH, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Stones, Hendrix, Scorps, Pat Travers, early Def Leppard, CTS, old KIX, etc. at that time, but have always had a pretty extensive appetite for a wide range of music. Yep, I was in a band that played/I also liked the Cars, Knack, Elvis Costello, Trick, etc., but Beatles/Wings, Pretenders, the Cure, Cult, Clash, Let's Active, Pistols, REM, Smiths, U2, Queen, Jeff Beck, Al Dimeola, Knopfler, Chet Atkins, SRV...hell, I can't possibly think of or list everything I listened to on a regular basis in the mid/late '80s! + 2 on Soundgarden. One of the coolest bands I ever got to see live.
-
I enjoyed the 80s myself, but personally liked the Gn'R side of Hard Rock v. the lame makeup, neon colors and pouffy hairspray crap. Sure, there were a lot of great players, but that crap really turned me off to a lot of them. Tough to take a bunch of guys in matching white leather with pink accents, 4-5 cans of AquaNet, more makeup than a Catholic Girls' school dance seriously when they're posing and pouting and trying to come across as bad-asses! As far as your opinion that it took KC's death to make Nirvana a big deal, you must not have been really tuned in to music in '91-'94 . They were HUGE before he died...at the time, I believe they were selling at near U2 status. I agree that PJ was a better band, but it is hard to argue w/the consistent songwriting and execution. It was also cool that they made fun of all those guys in spandex trying to look like pretty versions of Dee Snider.

How this made the cut for a VH-1 Classic "Metal Mania" video, I'll never know. I remember the hair band stuff getting light years beyond lame, but I never saw this turd! Thank god for Kurt Cobain... The only redeeming aspect of this video is the blue/black zebra graphic '80s Phantom that the lead guitarist slings/solos with. In all fairness, you may not be able to get through the video to make it to that point, so look for it around 2:35 or so...
